I am using Plex for music only. I have this various artists album, that shows only the titles of its tracks in Plex. Not the artists. Well, actually it shows the artists for 2 of the 21 tracks. When I use mp3tag though, ALL tracks have their artists and titles.
Why doesnt it show the artist for every track? I noticed that as a result I cannot search on these artists now. So I can only find a track by using the title.
Is the “albumartist” tag populated in MP3tag? It should be “Various Artists.” If it’s blank, it could confuse Plex.
I gave Album Artist a custom name: “Hitzone”. Here is why:
Some compilations have lots of albums. For example Hitzone has 100 albums. In my artist view I want to see “Hitzone” as artist, and when I click on that the 100 albums. I have a few more of these compilations that consists of several albums besides Hitzone.
In order to do this, I have named the album artist by the compilation. “Hitzone”, in this case.
I have tens (hundreds?) of various artist albums done that way. They show up properly in Plex, all tracks having their artists listed. This one does not. I cannot find out what is the problem.
EDIT
I moved the album from my Plex mediadrive to another location, changed the album artist to Various Artists and moved it back. It ended up exactly the same: only 2 tracks show an artist.
I also tried “Various”, instead of Various Artists.
Is “Prefer local metadata” enabled?
Yes, Prefer local metadata is checked. Also please see my EDIT in my previous post. Changing to Various Artists did not do the trick, unfortunately.
I might have found the solution.
The tracks where all M4A. I converted them to FLAC.
Now they all show up properly.
Still weird that SOME M4A tracks showed there artists, some didnt. Anyway, I will convert the problematic albums to FLAC.
