Plex is not listing the artist in my music library for some tracks

Plex is not showing the artist for some tracks in my music library. It almost seems to be random which tracks have the artist listed and which tracks do not.

I am following the correct folder structure to the best of knowledge:

Music > Artist > Album > Track # - Track title

I used MusicBrainz Picard to ensure my metadata is set correctly.

When I compare the file structure and naming convention of tracks that show the artist name against tracks that don’t, there is no difference that I can tell.

I’ve tried enabling and disabling “Prefer local metadata” and rescanning many times.

I’ve done the “Plex Dance” multiple times.

When I click on tracks that do not display the artist, it takes me to the correct artists/album page.

I’m totally out of options here, and don’t understand what I am doing wrong. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

This is an example of what my library looks like. Some tracks list the artist, others don’t.

From the screen shot above you can see that the track “TROLLZ” has the artist listed “6ix9ine & Nicky Minaj”, and the track below it “YAYA” does not have an artist listed. These tracks are from the same album and the same artist, and have the same metadata tags, and the same file structure and naming conventions. If I click on “YAYA” it will take me to the correct artist and album.

As far as I know, Plex never shows the Artist field if it is the same as the Album Artist.

(One exception - if the files are mp4 or m4a it will show the artist. No clue why those types of files are processed differently)

Apparently, Plex doesn’t actually store the track artist in it’s database in the same way it stores other info. You could add the album artist field into the list, so that it’s visible in the “Tracks” view, but I don’t think it’s possible to make the track artist show up in the album view. (unless it is different than the album artist.)
