Music folder mess up

Well I thought I was getting the hang of this but ran into another snag. I added a new artist to my music folder, rescanned and all hell broke loose. My folder shows I have 889 artists but when I start scrolling down as soon as I get down a few rows the number of artists disappears. I can scroll on down but everything is blank.I can scroll back up but scrolling down remains blank. I can go back to home screen and back to music and the number of artists comes back but it repeats the same thing. I ended up completely deleting my music folder and re-adding it again. This time it ask me to create a “premium” music collection. I went through the whole process and a couple of hours later it finished the scan. It’s still doing the exact same thing as it did before i deleted and re-added.

Couple of other observations that may help someone diagnose my problem. For one my dashboard is empty. The second more weird thing is I’m looking at my artists from A to Z . If I switch from Z to A I can scroll trough almost all my artists except only the top few. A-Z I can only see about 20 artists. I didn’t count all the ones from Z to A but it was almost all of them. Putting the two together there is about 20 artists that won’t show up either way.

Sounds like something with your music is picking up some bad data. In past instances, this has been caused by bad date info. Try changing the view from Artist to Album, then sort by release date forward and backwards, and see if there is an album with a strange or no date at all. If you find it, then move that album or albums our of your music library then update the library. It should remove the bad data and go back to normal.

Where do I send my check? Thank you! I’m fixed now.

I did the date check thing and found one album with a release date of 2105. I removed it (I had added it a while back with no issues) and it didn’t solve the problem. Keeping in mind what you said about bad data I just removed the last artist I added. It was about 6 albums. That did the trick. I should have done that to start with but I did run it through Filebot and thought that would resolve any problems there might be. Funny thing is (I had forgotten about it) was that I briefly looked on my phone app at my music and saw the new artist with several messed up artist titles. The new artist never showed up on my Mac app so I never saw the problem there. I really didn’t give it much thought but that was obviously the problem. Thanks again.

On a side note is there any way to fix those problems? None of them are visible just by looking at them in Mac finder and as I said I have ran them through Filebot.

There might be some strange characters in the embedded metadata. Easy method would be to remove all tags and see if that fixes it.

I just dumped it. Wasn’t that important. ^:)^
