Albums getting erroneously deleted from library during scans

I have a large music library (~4k albums) and frequently add new music to my collection. After adding a batch of CDs I perform a scan on the library to pick up the new music. I’ve noticed that many times I get a handful of existing albums that show up as “new” after I do the scan. Today I was looking at the alerts window and noticed that a bunch of artists/albums were removed from the library. Searching the library after the scan confirms that the items were removed, though the files still exist on disk. After performing another scan I noticed that some of the albums were re-added but now others have been removed.

I’m extremely concerned now that my library is incomplete and the playlists I have carefully curated are potentially corrupted by the removal of underlying tracks in my library. Is there a hard limit on the number of tracks/albums that I am running into or is there possibly a bug in the scanning logic? This is a serious issue that is very concerning.

  1. Is your media storage in the same device as your server
or is it externally connected or even per network?
If it is the latter, you have to clear that checkbox
Settings - Server - Library - ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’

  2. is your media storage organised in folders and subfolders after this schema
    Music / Artist / Album / Tracks
or is it just a big folder with all tracks in it?

The media is stored on a NAS mounted on the server host and is organized in folders by artist and album. Looking at the logs is appears that there may be timeouts during the scan that might be impacting things. I’ll try clearing ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’ to see if that helps, though I do want to be sure that media that is removed from the drive does get cleared from the library.

You can always clear the trash can manually.
