Music: Is acoustid_id an important embedded tag for plex?

Server Version#: Version 1.30.0.6442
Player Version#: Version 4.95.2

Hopefully a quick question  Is acoustid_id an important embedded tag for plex ? If so what is it used for ? Searching forum and plex online docs has not helped so hoping the community will

My scenario…

  • Media is mp3 music files, not flac.
  • Using Prefer local metadata for music media
  • All are tagged using musicbrainz picard

I’m mostly using the Lookup feature with musicbrainz to match and tag my music but have realised this does not add acoustid_id as its only added when using Scan.

So, I’m trying to figure out if plex actually uses this ? I’ve over 50k tracks in my music library so far and only 2 are unmatched by plex (see Track 0 Music Tracks not getting a plex track id for details on those if you are interested). Everything else is matched by plex so trying to see what I would get by adding acoustid_id to my tags ?

Thanks!

It isn’t used by us.

Thanks for the confirmation.

@anon5074910 I just want to chip in that acoust id on musicbrainz is meant as a sort of fallback if you can not identify the files any other way. It isn’t reliable as it can only identify the recording, not the exact release.

It is only stored in the metadata so that you won’t need to regenerate it. It’s not meant for other matching uses.

What you should be thinking about is the musicbrainz release id, and use Picard to get that stored in your files. Plex will use those, and it will guarantee that if it matches in Picard, it will match in Plex.

Just a tip
