Integrating with Musicbrainz would be nice, as a metadata source, as well as more extensive tagging to at least include the Musicbrainz ID
If you use Musicbrainz Picard you can already tag your files with the Musicbrainz ID and plex will be using it.
Musicbrainz is already the default source for music metadata.
(At least if you use “Plex Music” as both Scanner and Agent for your Plex music library.)
Also, if you ever need to manually match an album or artist using the “Fix Match” feature, you can paste the MBID into the appropriate field:
You can use the Release MBID in the Album field of the Fix Match form:
Make sure you have the correct MBID. You want the Release, not the Release Group.
If you’re matching an Artist, you need the Artist MBID.
Closing this thread as the underlying feature is available (you can match by MBID and Plex will use MB metadata).
