Have come back since a long time to see what plex has evolved into.
Being slightly dissapointed about the hard no-gos that drove me away (although plex lifetime subscriber) still there:

• Itunes smart playlists don’t import even if you put your path to the library file, or export playlists. Don’t push me to edit the XML file, thank you. (Fix this please)
• LyricFind doesn’t even begin to work although in the agent settings at the top an checked and a library refresh. (Fix this please, as it also is a announced feature!?)
• If you can’t fix Lyrics, please support ID3 finally, because my Library is full of Lyrics, that are not picked up by Plex. TY in advance.

You have NO choice. If you want to import iTunes playlists, then you must edit the XML file.

This is because iTunes does NOT support Linux (DSM) at all and Plex can only offer a rudimentary workaround. If you have issue with that, take it up with Apple .

The alternative is to forget about iTunes and use Plex or some other software to curate your Music.

No one is forcing you to use Plex for any reason.

I already tried to edit the xml file given the manuals in this forum for hours. Doesn’t work.
Rebuilding my work of almost two decades, no thanks. I’ll keep ITunes/Music around, since it simply does the job.

LyricFind works perfectly well for the majority of users. So the question is, what have you screwed up?

LyricFind cannot identify files that are not named and organised correctly. Perhaps you need to start there.

No. I sincerly don’t have to start there. I finished it a long time ago and have checked my entrances with various online sources over the years (CDDB/Discogs etc. etc.) No need to scold me here. It took me almost 20 years to come to this place.

Plex does support ID3 v2.3, just not as well as most people would like.

If your lyrics are not being picked up, then that is something else you have screwed up, because it works for thousands of other people.

Minimum ID3 v2.3 tags for Plex:

Artistyep
Album Artist (Add for ALL tracks. Use 'Various Artists' for Various Artist albums.)various only if various are given
Album Title yep
Track Title yep
Year yep
Genre yep
Track Number yep
Cover Art yep

I recommend using only the tags above. Other tags may be included, but may not be used by Plex.

If the album has multiple discs, add the disc number tag as appropriate also. yep

Your Music should be stored in Artist/Album folders, like so:

So, even those lyrics are not picked up. And yeah, its the Itunes style of filing. So you tell me to change 20k files so they just fit into Plex? Why doesn’t it work with what is already there, and changes it by it self to fit?

Then clearly you have not edited the file correctly.

It is also worth noting that you cannot import ‘smart’ playlists from iTunes.

That’s the only reason i tried to edit it in the first place. Since there is no way, I’ll give up on that.

Looking at your screenshot, most likely, you have not enabled the Local Media Assets agent and sorted it towards the top of the list…

Settings haven’t been changed before or during this discussion.

Some .m4a files may contain DRM. Plex cannot play files that contain DRM unless you convert them to .mp3 or another format using iTunes

No DRM in my library. That is for sure. CD/Apple Lossless created by XLD/EAC Accuraterip.

Also, Plex made some significant changes to Music handling in the recent past. If you created your Plex Music libraries prior to that release, then you should consider deleting your old libraries and replace them with fresh new libraries.

Library was created with latest release (as i said i wanted to check what plex has new to offer)

I have to say thinking about your organization tips, i will give it a shot and change one album to see if there will be a desired outcome.

The files are stored on a NAS and they are copied from the Mac. Path is the following:
NAS (Synology):

Mike
Plex (Plex Server set this up, no media files in here)

Root: MikeDS (volume1/)
/Mike/Plex/05 Musik/ITunes/ITunes/Music

The double “Itunes” stems from me backing up the complete music folder since Apple had the audacity to change to “music”-app without a new library.

Plex already had R/W to all folders but nevertheless i have redone R/W rights and switched them back for all folders/subfolders/files for the user plex. Have a look at this:

This could already be the end of story, because i can pull all the lyrics from the tags with “LyricsFinder”-App for mac and save them in the appropriate folders as txt.

Does plex need admin rights to use Plex LyricFind?

Lyric find now also does work for me: (no added .txt lyrics on this album)

This makes me so enthusiastic, i’ll recreate the smart playlists in plex (since there will nothing be added as they are release-time based)
