Music Library being used for Audio Books - read metadata from files

I am using the Music Library to listen to audio books. The metadata is in the files themselves but Plex is not reading it from the files. I would love to see summaries of audio books that are in the Comment field for the file appear in the Review Section in Plex for the book.

I would also like to see a metadata scanner option in Plx that supports audio books such as Audnexus. This would allow for the metadata to autopopulate from the scanner.

You can configure your library to prefer embedded metadata.
Just keep in mind this requires actual metadata fields, not just some file properties from the Windows Explorer. There’s e.g. a dedicated attribute for a description (not the comment).

Depending on what platform you’re using to prepare your media, you might want to look into mp3tag (Windows) or Subler (Mac). There’s also apps like TinyMediaManager that can automate the process to populate the media with the correct fields.

Unless I’m misunderstanding your ask, you should be able to install the Audnexus agent, which will make it available in the agent dropdown in your library’s settings (a PMS restart may be required).

Keep in mind though that Plex is planning on completely ripping out the legacy agent system in the near-ish future, which will include third-party agents (and it’s already been done on Shield servers). When that does happen, the maintainers of Audnexus would have to release a new version that works with the new API Plex is working on (Fireside Follow-up: Metadata Agenda, NFO Support, and some of our future work on PMS - General Discussions - Plex Forum).

With DTR‘s feedback… I wonder if this addresses what you were asking for?

2025 clean-up: considered to be possible using a 3rd party agent (for anything beyond ootb features) / implemented/available
