I’m new to Plex. Currently, only interested in organizing/accessing my music library. I don’t have Plex Pass (yet). When I get Plex Pass, I understand Plex will identify some of my mp3 and get the metadata or find images where I have none etc.

Question 1: This new information will only be stored in Plex’s sqlite db, new info will not be written to disk/files?
Question 2: I’m sure other people have similar issues. Are there any current ways (helper scripts, plugins etc.) to help me sorting my mp3? I have been using mediamonkey so far and my stuff is fairly organized, but it seems better (more future proof) to correct metadata on file level than “just” in Plex db.

BTW:I find it hard to figure out what is the current state of things. When looking for answers always old forum posts pop up and I’m have no way of figuring out if old issues still exist.

Yes, Plex will not touch your media files, so it won’t write any metadata into them.

Agreed. Many use Musicbrainz Piccard.
With a lot less automatic functions, mp3tag does a good job as well.

If you stick to a proper folder structure Artist / Album / tracks you won’t have many problems with either library type, Plex Pass or not.

It is only when you have one big folder of random tracks that the Premium library cuts out while it tries to determine which album that could be…
