Before signing up to Plex, I used MusicBee to organize my library. In fact, I continue to use MusicBee to organize my music library because, while Plex is great for accessing my library on-the-go, it seems to be terrible for creating playlists and editing metadata. I regularly import my playlists from MusicBee to Plex with Postman.
I have told Plex to use my own metadata (https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381093-identifying-music-media-using-embedded-metadata/), but it doesn’t seem to work that well for individual files. For example, I have the song “What Is Love” by Haddaway from the album The Album. I have no desire ever to listen to the rest of the album, so I only have that song. I put it in a folder called “Individual Tracks” with similar songs. However, Plex does not accept my metadata for the track and assigns it the Artist Name from the song that appears first alphabetically in that folder. I have no problem with the metadata for other folders that are full albums (except for possibly Various Artists, but that doesn’t seem to be uniformly a problem as this is).
Do I really need to go through a create individual folders for each track in my “Individual Tracks” folder in order for Plex to recognize it appropriately? I can go through and re-edit the metadata for each track individually in Plex, but it’s a hassle and takes a long time.
