Music matching...does not use any info from file structure? ...and repeatingly refreshes metadata

I have upgrade my music library to newest and everything worked fine.

Thus I recently ripped a number albums to flac and put them into my Plex file system. For some reason no metadata was written into the flac files, but the files names for the tracks are having the track title.

So now it looks like this, the files are put into the library as

-- artist name
---- album name
------- <01 track title>.flac
------- <02 track title>.flac
---- album name
------- <01 track title>.flac
------- <02 track title>.flac

But it seems that the matching does not work, they all come up as Various Artist, Unknown album and no track titles, which leads me to believe that it only uses metadata for matching - and not any info related to the structure of the music files. (is that correct?)

Then I do a manual matching (typing in artist and album), which works fine.

But I also have observed (for these newly added albums - missing metadata in files) that there seem to be a “refresh metadata” occuring quite often even for the already matched ones, which I haven’t seen on the albums that has metadata in the files.

Is this normal?

Server Version#: 1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d

I’ve noticed a similar thing regarding my various artist albums. Every time the library rescans it rematches and reprocesses all the metadata for these albums regardless of whether they were previously matched or not.

Yep, I confirm it. All compilations are getting refreshed several times per day. The same happens to files Plex hasn’t been able to match. I’ve tried to increase rescan intervals, but it hasn’t brought any change…

Same for me, a few bits get added to the relatively large music library every day, which means the music scanner is pretty much stuck in an endless loop, holding up the other libraries. Has this been addressed at all yet?

I have a small library compared to many (only about 2000 albums) I suggested the scanner might be a little aggressive in trying to match about a month ago, when I would see the scanner in an endless loop for hours, and the only way to stop it was shut down the server. And then the full library scan would start all over as soon as I added a new album or changed the metadata in a single file within the library.

It might be a problem they can’t re-produce, but I’ve sent several sets of log files to provide assistance. It might be that I have about 350 albums that can’t be matched because they are not available at MusicBrainz. In that case, I would think the scheduled maintenance would be sufficient to look for new entries at MB and try to match. It could actually be a genuine bug. In any event, I haven’t seen any statements from Plex that confirm it is a problem, at least for some of us.

I would even settle for an explanation as to why a full scan is considered necessary, when all of my server options for scanning are to only scan the folder that changed. That works for every other type of library, and new media is scanned almost instantaneously without a full library scan, but those settings are ignored for Music libraries.
