Somehow 360+ albums are listing 1 artist name for the albums. When I look at the metadata for each song, they still appear to be correct. But, I may be missing the applicable field.
I would like to know a) how this could have happened and b) how to fix.

When I look at this TOBi artist, there is a warning message:
“Warning! Deleting this artist may remove other artists and scrobbles from your library - please handle with caution! Note: You can view albums tagged as “various Artists” library here.”
The issue is your folder structure. Somehow you have one album with “album artist” tagged as “Tobi” inside the same folder which houses all your “Various Artists” albums.
Then ‘use local meta data’ overrode the album artist for all albums inside this folder.
Its funny you should mention that…I was looking at the meta options and selected local preferred about an hour ago. Should this take affect immediately or after a scan?
I don’t quite understand the “folder structure” reference. I have changed nothing in months. I don’t play with meta tags/information generally. If I do, it is prior to ever moving the folder into my live Plex drive.
With existing items, after refreshing metadata.
With newly added items, after the scan.
Your screen shot looks like you did it incorrectly in the first place.
You always need the folder structure Music > [Artist name] > [Album] > [Tracks]
This applies to ‘Various Artist’/sampler albums as well: Music > Various Artists > [Album] > [Tracks]
But your soundtrack albums appear to be missing one folder level.
Get mp3tag and inspect the ‘Album Artist’ meta tag of all your soundtrack albums. At least one of them must have “ToBi” in there. Replace that with “Various Artists”.
If you have a soundtrack album which is credited to a single artist instead of Various Artists, then move this album out of the “Various Artists” folder.
Otherwise it will cause the same issue again.
My collection is definitely Artist > Album > Songs. In this case, the album is a Soundtrack . The specifics are: Soundtrack > Dark Shadows > Songs. This has worked for literally years. Again, haven’t changed anything. To your point, the issue only seems to affect various artists/compilations type albums.
I installed mp3tag and there is no indication of a TOBi as a tag of any sorts. Album, artist, genre, title…all correct. Could the database be corrupt?
NOTE: I reread your post. I will see if I can find any of the references you mentioned. Trying analyze all songs now… This seems painful and don’t quite understand the db logic if 1 album can hijack metadata for artist for 350 albums? I don’t get it…
