Server and all players are up to date. I have a music library set to browse by folder. I have track title, artist, album artist, year, duration set to display. However, the Album Artist ALWAYS shows “Various Artists” and Artist is always blank except if the album artist is missing from the file it will show the Artist. Year never shows anything. Album always shows the same text for an entire folder’s songs. Duration and track title are the only fields that are accurate.
The folder mode doesn’t help if your music files don’t follow the requirements. It still won’t work until you reorganize the files and correct their embedded meta tags.
Which is what I suppose is the source of your troubles.
Ack! I’ve been with Plex Pass for a long time and was hoping there’d be some changes in the music player after all these years. My “library” of music is definitely not suitable for its strict structure requirements. I have many ways that music gets dumped into my collection. I have only one or a few songs from any particular artist and certainly not more than a couple from any single album. Even if I did, I shouldn’t have to hassle maintaining such a structure. Since each song already has its meta with all relevant info embedded, I would expect a quality media management app to be able to use this to handle all display and playback tasks for me. Although Plex has been invaluable as a video playback tool, its music and photo capabilities are still totally inferior to other tools that I shall have to still rely on. I’ll check back on these features again in another few years, while I remain disappointed.
There are plenty of (free) utilities that will do this for you, and once you do it, it’s done and you’ll never have to think about it again.
While I appreciate the immediacy of your feelings of disappointment, I assure you this is something that can be fixed without waiting years letting those feelings fester into something worse.
