I’ve read related support articles on structure of music and metadata, and I’m still not clear if I have the correct layout.
I have each disc of a multi disc album, in its own folder, with a suffix of ‘-disc_n’ in the folder’s name. But sometimes, these albums do not get picked up by PMS.
Is that a recommended structure, or do all the album’s tracks of a multi disc album, need to be in the same folder, with the track name including the disc number as a prefix??
Although there is mention of multi disc albums, there is no mention of whether all tracks need to be in one album folder, or not.
You can use sub folders for each disc just fine.
But these subfolders must be inside a general folder for the overall album. (And not side by side with all the other albums)
Keep in mind to tag all files of all discs with identical content in the AlbumTitle and AlbumArtist metatags respectively.
I have a good example where side by side disc folders of a four disc album, works.
My flac copy of ‘Nuggets’ has no disc numbers on the track file names. In fact the file names are prefixed, for example, by ‘01.’ and it works fine.
I also have another example where the track file names of a two disc album, are prefixed by '1-01 ’ and '2-01 ’ in side by side folders, and again, it works fine.
I’ve tried the track file naming ‘standard’ as specified in support article ‘Adding Music Media from Folders’ for multi disc albums of dtt-name, where d is disc number, and tt is track number. All tracks are in one album folder, and all the embedded metadata in the tracks is good.
I restructured the two disc album I 'm not seeing in PMS, to follow the rule that I have used for all my other multi-disc albums (and they all can be seen in PMS). The rule is to have a folder name suffix of ‘-disc_n’ after the album name, and both album disc folders are side by side in the artist folder.
Then I checked the permissions, and they were not the same as other album folders for that artist, so I made them the same. Et voila, it works! I can see the album in PMS. Many thanks beckfield.
