Music Organization Difficulties in Plexamp

I have loved adding my CDs into Plex by encoding to FLAC, especially all my Beatles and Depeche Mode content.

However, sometimes Plex wants to add an album to the wrong Folder, ie. Albums, Remixes, Singles & EPs, Live Albums.

Why can’t we just drag and drop Albums to the proper content folder?

For example, I would like all my Beatles original releases located in Albums. Rereleases, Remastered, Anniversary with up to 8 CD additions should not go in the ALBUMS directory but rather the Remix directory or a Remastered directory.

A lot of the reissues include both Mono, Stereo, and 5.1 surround. I’d like to be able to create a section for 5.1 specifically as I would need to run the sound through proper channels to hear them properly… Even Depeche Mode has released their albums in 5.1. It’s wonderful to hear your favorite albums in surround sound.

As an added bonus problem, I have added the Beatles Radio Documentaries (usually 10 to 20 CDs) into a new library “Music Documentaries” in hopes that I could port/tag the 1 radio title (of 20 CDs) with “Beatles” and have them appear into the main music Beatles directory with one entry instead of 20. We do this with Star Wars/Star Trek movies and Series but when I do this with Music titles, the lower half of my albums disappear (everything below Albums does not show up.) When I removed the tag from the radio show, the Live, Compilations, Remixes, etc appeared again.

Wonderful work, none the less, the best available! Thank You for all the hard work you guys put into this.

It’s in the referenced post, but in addition to adding the “ReleaseType” tag to your FLAC files you need to enable the following server setting:

Server → Settings → Library → Show Advanced → Group albums by type = Enabled

Also, I believe you can’t have spaces after semi-colon in the ReleaseType tag value:

ReleaseType=album;live (i.e. no spaces)

The referenced post is PURE GOLD, I have never seen the rules in one place before.

edit: other MBZ categories like album;mixtape , album;dj-mix or broadcast;interview do get read and categorized internally (you can use these in filters and Smart Collections), but they don’t get shown under specific headers in the Artist discography.

It’s too bad these categories are not put under headers, but that they are used at all is very welcome news.
