When playing music from Plex, the desktop client broadcasts the “now playing” information to the OS (AKA media session, “SMTC” on Windows). This way, other applications such as visualizers can display information about media playing on the device.
The “artist” information provided is the album artist instead of the track artist, which causes albums with multiple artists on it such as those labeled as “Various Artists” to have that displayed as the currently playing artist.
This is inconsistent with most other music player applications which provide the currently playing track’s artist.
This should be a toggle in the client for those that prefer Plex to behave in line with other music players.
