I have come across an issue in plex with music ratings. From my research and troubleshooting i see this is related to id3 tags and track numbers but am open to suggestions for a solution or preferably a bug fix.
So the issue is:
I have albums that include multiple disc’s i.e. greatest hits albums with 2-3 discs so there are redundant track numbers ( Disk 1 Track 1, Disk 2 Track 1, Disk 3 Track 1, etc).
-When i rate track 1 of Disk 1 the 1st track on disk 2 and 3 also auto rate themselves the same. Obviously this is annoying.
I also have albums that dont have any track numbers such as an album i have featuring my stand up comedy audio collection.
-When 1 track with no track number on the album is rated, all other tracks on the album that do not have a track number reflect the same rating. Essentially rating the entire album the same when they shouldnt be.
Likewise some artists that i have just have random tracks for (not complete albums for) i make an album called something like “(artist name)-mixed tracks” with tracks having a mix of no track number or random track numbers.
-Same issues as the above, when one song is rated the other tracks with matching track number fields auto rate to match.
Is your server configured to prefer embedded metadata, or is it drawing from Last.FM or Gracenote?
I used to let Plex use the online services, but I had nothing but trouble with it. Since I reconfigured Plex for embedded metadata, and got my embedded tags in good shape, those troubles are gone. I can’t say that I’ve seen your particular issue (I’ve never bothered with rating tracks), but I just tried what you described and I can’t reproduce the same behavior. It works as you would expect. So I’m wondering if it has something to do with the metadata Plex has for your tracks, or a database corruption problem, or something else.
What are the versions of Plex server and Plex Web are you using? What OS is your server on?
Yes its set to prefer embedded metadata and my meta data is pretty well managed considering the amount of content i have (thanks OCD)
I dont know if it would matter much either way since some of the albums are of my own creation the auto match wouldnt find them in any database but mine.
Note that when attempting to reproduce it doesnt always happen immediately. you sometimes have to wait a few minutes to replicate but you can force the replication by playing one of the tracks that the rating hasnt changed on yet.
