To give my question some background:
At the bottom of the “Advanced” tab for my music library there is a field titled “Scanner”. This field has a drop-down box with two choices.
The first choice is “Plex Music”.
The second choice is “Plex Music Scanner”
Darn. Hate hearing that. I took a shot and changed to “Plex Music Scanner” in the meantime and my unmatched Artists immediately dropped from 500+ to 127. At one time I had over 600 of my 1100 Artists in “unmatched”. Seeing the drop got my hopes up.
At the moment it seems the “matching” is broke. I thought this new system is supposed to sonicly match, but I’ve been burning hours cleaning up metadata, hoping to make a dent.
My music folder is organized by iTunes. The support articles indicate that this organizing method should be good. However, I see that iTunes doesn’t name the files in the same format as shown in the support article. The article states that naming by iTunes is {track #} - {track name}. iTunes currently is organizing file names with {disc #}-{track #}{space}{track name}. I have seen exceptions to the iTunes naming in the case were disc number is only 1 of {blank}, 1 of 1, or {blank} of {blank}. In these cases the disc # is not included in the file name; thus the file name begins with the track #.
