I have purchased and uploaded a LOT of music albums over the years. When I got my Synology NAS drives, I place the music on it. And later when I created a server on my Mac, did the same. But, no matter what I try, I can’t get my Albums by Category to sort and display the way I would like…
For instance: I have created an instrumental category where there is no singing (more or less - simple background music). I have sub categories under that so that I could choose piano or guitar or orchestra. Under each of these sum categories, I have unique albums and would like to see the album pictures and a title of the album. But, I just can’t seem to find the right way to do this.
I either get albums to show, but in multiple places indicating that different pieces are performed by different artists.
Also in many instances I get an icon displaying “Various Artists” but within multiple disjointed albums and sorted crazy. I don’t care that an album might have multiple artists, but want to display the name of the album and then under that the tracks regardless of artists.
I just am frustrated with how Plex seems to throw so may together based on “???”
Sorry, I create a category like “Instrumental” and under it “Piano”, “Guitar”, “Saxophone”, etc. Under of these sub-categories, I put albums that I have purchased, but I can never see the album cover like one might see at Amazon Music or Pandora. And if a choose to sort by Albums, I see the album cover, but I sometimes get icon that are the same showing up. And if there are more then one Artist, bit moves them to another spot. The images below shoes an example of three album that have the SAME pieces of music. I love the album pictures, put can’t see them if I place them into subfolders under my own created cartegory like “Instrumental” etc…
Sorry I don’t understand where you are doing this. There is no “create a category” option i am aware of. I’m not sure if you just mean “library” something like “collections” or “folders” and maybe your interface says that due to regional translations (like “series” vs “shows”)
I’m sorry if I am being dense. I just want to make sure I understand to figure out if there is a solution that may work for you ( I may need too ask others input)
It sounds like you mean folder view from the second drop down since that is were it album covers will not show up. Folder view is not a strong suit for Plex. I personally would add genres to albums like Instrumental then filter on that rather than using folders to separate things. ( but again I may be completely misunderstanding)
I don’t quite understand what you mean by category. If you mean genre. Like rock, pop, classical. But you added your own genres. Like instrumental. Then you can sort by genre. If you want custom images to show up with each instrumental album you can.
Make a copy of the image you want to use. And then place it inside the folder of the album. Name it Cover. Then go to Plex web browser highlight the album three dots and choose refresh metadata and like magic Plex will insert the album artwork you want.
If you have more than one album cover in there then you can select the one you want from the web browser.
