Music Videos - HELP!

I’m pretty good now at most things in Plex but I’m finding making music videos to appear to be the most difficult thing. Here is an example of one of my paths
/Volumes/ROB’S 5TB/Music/Madonna - Gambler.mp4

Yet when I Add the music volume to Plex under “Music” I just can’t get it to appear

I’ve tried following the advice in the guides but I think I might be missing something fairly obvious. Any help would be appreciated

Rename the file to: /Volumes/ROB’S 5TB/Music/Madonna - Gambler-video.mp4

That only works if you have the song in the same folder. If you have a folder of just music videos, you need to use the Global option.

There’s really not enough info there to figure out what you’re trying to do. Can you provide a screenshot of the folder where the video file is?

Also, where are you expecting the video to appear? Alongside a music track, or at the bottom of the Artist detail page?

I tried that and it didn’t work. There is still nothing showing in the library

I don’t keep my music tracks in Plex, I just want the videos. I’ve tried Global and inline and they don’t work. It’s just impossible

If you don’t have music tracks, you can’t do inline. If you don’t have at least one track for the artist, Global won’t work either. In a Music library, videos can only be associated with music.

You need to use either the “Movies” or “Other videos” library type.

Well when I use “Movies” it downloads metadata from a Movie with the same name as the music video. When I use “Other Videos” there’s no option for “Artist Name” etc. I would put my music library in to Plex but its awkward as a lot of the stuff is purchased from I Tunes and DRM protected so won’t work

All true, but that’s the current state of affairs. Plex just isn’t set up for music videos as a stand-alone Library type. They’ve always been treated as an add-on for Music libraries. I think I remember seeing a feature request to change that. You might want to find it in the Feature Requests forum and add your vote.

iTunes stopped putting DRM on music files a long time ago. Try with 1 artist and see if it works. If you just want music videos, you don’t need actual music tracks. Create a 1 second mp3 file for each artist you want, so PMS can then create the correct structure. A blank file may even work, I haven’t tried that. Then you can use the global music video option.
