Music Videos not appearing in library (in-line or standalone)

Following this guide, I’m not able to get music videos to appear whether using “In line” or “Global Music Videos Folder”

For simplicity’s sake, I’ll talk about standalone here.

Music library

  • Files: /Volumes/Servarr/data/media/music/
  • Example: A Perfect Circle/Mer de noms (2000)/A Perfect Circle - Mer de noms - 04 - Judith.mp3

Music Videos

  • Files: /Volumes/Servarr/data/media/music_videos/
  • Example: /A Perfect Circle/Judith-video.mkv

Settings > Extras > Global music videos path

  • /Volumes/Servarr/data/media/music_videos/

I’ve tried to rename the .mkv file so it appears the same as the music file, I think the convention is correct?

  • Example: Mer de noms (2000)/A Perfect Circle - Mer de noms - 04 - Judith - Judith-video.mkv

I’ve also tried putting that same .mkv file into the existing music library folder, both alongside the mp3 file and in a separate Extras folder (in the artist folder, not the album subfolder).

Nothing seems to work.

When viewing the Plex log (Settings > Console) I can see that the “Global music videos path” is being saved. But no amount of library refreshing, file placement, or filename tweaking seem to get any of my music videos to load anywhere at all.

I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or if the functionality is broken somewhere?

The “-video” suffix is used when you’re storing the videos with the specific song file in the music library (so you get the little video icon on the album listing).

For stand-alone setups like you’re doing, Plex identifies the artist from the file name.

Don’t do: /A Perfect Circle/Judith-video.mkv
Do: /A Perfect Circle - Judith.mkv

All the videos will be together in one directory.
You’ll need to refresh the metadata on an artist if you add videos for them.

Hmm… it seems I must’ve missed something re “refresh the metadata”.

I moved the Judith file into the location you suggested, refreshed the metadata, and now ALL music videos for A Perfect Circle are showing up (even those in the global music video artist subfolder).

I’ve just been refreshing the library, not the metadata.
