My library list has lost its alphabetical order

That is an incorrect assumption.
For me and the OP, the Plex web app is messed up, also Roku and Android clients have non-pinned libraries sorted by Movies, TV Shows, Music, Photos, Videos and not alphabetically.

My bad on assumption since on my side Plex Web app is working correctly on iOS, so there is problem across other platforms also. Thank you for update.

It probably depends on the number and type of libraries you have.

Are you saying that the Plex Web client is ok or the iOS client or both?

Versions I have tested (above post) and features I use (browse, select and watch) and alphabetical order (and pin sort ordering) yes, works on iOS.
Versions past the version 1.21.0.3711, DLNA sort ordering is not good, plus quirky behaviour on my TV set, iOS and PC Plex web app (not sure what you mean Plex web app but I presume app in browser) is working fine. On iOS native client app (downloaded from store) is also working fine for me.
Yesterday I’ve confirmed that version 1.19.1.2701, needed to be restarted (actually kill DLNA server process) to get normal behaviour and ability to browse folders again since it was working the day before yesterday.
I hope my info helps in some way your situation.

I was puzzled by this too as it started happening on all my devices. I did roll back to 1.21.0.3711 and seems to have done the trick and my libraries show up in order now. Thanks for looking into which version was the one working correctly.

Plex has acknowledged that the alphabetical sort order problem is a bug and they are working on it.
The unpinned section will be sorted by Library Type (Movie, TV, Music, Photo, Other Video) then Library (alphabetically).

Thanks for the additional details, I had not found that thread where it says they’ve been working on it. I’d still wish it was just alphabetical altogether (instead of type then alphabetical), since I watch more TV shows. Perhaps, I’m misunderstanding it or we’d get the option to sort it however we had it before these updates. I did like the ā€œpinnedā€ library idea, I need to try it. But at least rolling back the server sorted that out, I don’t need to be in the latest server version.

Which still removes the possibility to order the libraries as we want, which is what we used to have.

For example I have a Library of Stand up Comedy (Movie Library) and Stand Up Comedy (TV Library).

I would like those grouped together (and not just on the Pinned section)

It’s just more of Plex forcing their idea of how our libraries should be organised

That doesn’t solve the issue at all, we want the unpinned section to be ordered alphabetical like it was before… I watch much more TV Shows than Movies, so, doesn’t make sense to me have my Movies libraries first on the unppined section (that order reflects on DLNA and others devices, like the popcorn hour and can’t be changed by ā€œpinningā€).

I’m just letting you know how it is, not trying to solve our problem.

This seems to be the first steps in pushing their content first over ours. First we can’t organize our media. Next we can’t remove their content from the bar. Next their content is pushed above ours and we can’t ever get back our original 150$ plex experience.

This is wrong.

Yeah, with the latest update (1.21.2.3918), now the unpinned section is sorted by library type and then alphabetically, but like I said, that doesn’t solve the issue AT ALL, so, again, we want the unnpined section to be sorted alphabetically like it was for ages, because this give us sort choices by just editing a few characters and no, pin section is not an option in our cases due to our devices.

The fact that this SIMPLE problem is taking so long to be fixed, forcing me to take extra steps to access my tv shows everyday, makes me want to just delete PLEX more and more.

I have created a feature request here:

but sadly not many votes…

feel to add a vote if you have any spare.

I voted but find it ridiculous that we have to ask for a feature that we had and was taken away for some illogical reason.
What would be the poing of forcing sort by media type? If we really wanted that we could have done it with library naming.

Yep agreed, and tbh, I don’t really expect Plex to act on the request, even if it does get loads of votes.

They generally only seem to act on feature requests that fit with the direction they want to go, not based on the number of votes.

Thanks for making the request. We shouldn’t have to request this as a feature, as sort order is kind of the most basic aspect of any application.

I’ve voted and I hope others do too. I started out being patient about this, but it’s ridiculous that an update broke such a fundamental thing as sort order and equally ridiculous that it isn’t already fixed.

This is extremely annoying. There is no way to physically sort your libraries the way you want without pinning and reordering. It seems you have to pin the libraries you want sorted, and then reorder them on each specific device instead of having a sort option that is universal and alphabetical by default.

You could have managed users to separate your libraries, and then pin the ones and sort them, but it’s a lot of extra work especially if you have multiple devices and not to mention if you have to reset a device, you have to order them all over again which can be a huge undertaking if you have a lot of libraries.

Overall, we need a universal settings that can be configured for all devices and an optional manual override for user/device customisation. It’s still a shame the libraries are not sorted by default.

I find this amazing how after this recent update (1.21.2.3939), the libraries on the home page are still not in alphabetical order.

Two months later and 2-3 additional updates later, this easy issue is still an issue. Wow, just wow!

1.21.2.3939 fixed it for me.

I believe the home does not fix automatically upon updating the server as it sticks with the custom user order. To go for the alphabetic ordering (this will include ALL libraries from your server and such) you can simply reset the home page preferences with one button click (see here) and then remove any unwanted item.
