Server Version: 1.24.1.4931

Best Regards

Did you recently add a lot of media?
Or did you recently enable video preview thumbnails?

I’d guess you updated to the new metadata agent and that you now have metadata from the previous agent and the new one.

Try emptying the trash and see if that helps. I needed you do this when I upgraded months ago.

Good point!
Is your server running during the nightly server maintenance period – i.e. the time period set for Scheduled Tasks?

Hello thanks for the quick reply. I emptyed the trash with no benefit.
I also tried to relod all Metadata then my Drive was completly Full o Bytes remaining i restarted evrythin and now it has 9GB Left.

Yes I have everything activated without the “Update Liberies”

Thanks for the quick reply.
I don’t have done any of these.

A risky suggestion (of sorts) …

Stop plex, delete the contents of the Metadata folder, start plex again and force refresh your libraries.

This should then just download the new metadata. You might lose some manual poster edits with this so beware.

Might be worth taking a backup before doing it if you decide the risk is worth it.

Also check the the transcode folder - it can grow uncontrolled in plex. There is a thread in the forum on that issue.

Hi
I already thought about it but it seems a bit too risky
I checked it is the MetaData folder.

Best regards

That points to video preview thumbnails.

How large is your media collection?
How many videos are in there?

For how long was your volume completely full?
Your Plex database might have become damaged because of it.

I should have suggested clean bundles and not empty trash. If you have not tried clean bundles then give that a go.

Hi there
Thank you all for the support.
I tried now every soulution u all suggested even that with complete deleting the MetaData and reload it with an older Backup. After a update of ervrything, also the Metadata. Now the Metadata folder ist 107GB Big, seems that a bit more common, or still too big? I have a total of 859 Series with a total of 45k of Epsiodes and 1k Films. My previous Plex Folder wa near 60 GB, can I change some settings or is it the Problem with the new Plex Agent?

Thanks again and best regards

You haven’t really answered my questions, so I cannot tell you if this will blow up again or whether it is a realistic size for a metadata folder.

Hi Otto
Thanks for ur help but I think i have answered most of ur Questions.
Anyway here i summarized all. I really appicate ur help and also form all the other helpers that tried to help me.
Did you recently add a lot of media? No
Or did you recently enable video preview thumbnails? No, it is deactivated
Is your server running during the nightly server maintenance period – i.e. the time period set for Scheduled Tasks? Yes it does an the settings are the deualts
How large is your media collection? Approx 40 TB
How many videos are in there? Approx 50’000 Videos
For how long was your volume completely full? 10-20min during the “reload all Metadata” process

Have you performed the database repair? Because a damaged database is very likely to result from a volume that was running full.

Yes i did

When the server is idle (nobody is playing, optimizing, downloading stuff)
perform “Optimize Database”, followed by “Clean Bundles”.

Can you determine which subfolder of the Plex data folder is occupying the most storage space?

I did: perform “Optimize Database”, followed by “Clean Bundles”.
That folder was approx 100 Gigs big: AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Metadata\TV Shows
Now with the Clean Bundles action again it is at 18 GB.

Thanks for all the help.
My Solutiona was:
First i replaced the TV-Show Meta data folder with an Backup
Then after some restarts i “Optimize Database”, followed by “Clean Bundles”
Now it is on an acceptable Level of size (18GB).

P.s. My first celan Bundle Action don’t made a different
Danke Otto

Best regards

Very good! Now this is a more sane number for the amount of items you have (and with video thumbs disabled).

Which also means that the balloning was most likely caused by the change of the metadata agent.
“Clean Bundles” is also performed during server maintenance, but not daily. So the matter would probably have solved itself after one or two weeks.
