Have you tried right clicking on the show and selecting Fix Incorrect Match and then picking Lost?
That's odd, I honestly don't even know how to make that little mini-player show up! If you hit enter or click play on the Apple Remote, it should play full-screen. It's possible that hitting the "tab" key switches between that mini player and the full-screen window.
Hi Elan (aka Sherrif!) :) I am happy to send you anything you need--please just tell me how to do it! Where is the "drop box"--Also
Do you want me to send you the mp4 nip tuck and the m4v? or just episode 3? And would you like me to send the one mp4 file that DID make it through? (entourage) along with one from the same season that didn't?
Anything you want--you guys work incredibly hard and I'd like to help in any way i can!!!
Best regards, Shannon
Hey Shannon, sorry I meant http://www.dropbox.com/ :) You should be able to make an account there and upload media.
I'd like to see an MP4 file that doesn't appear. As for the Nip/tuck M4V files, I think you will need to either:
1) Name them 1x01 or S01E01
2) Rename them to .mp4 so that the MP4 parser kicks in
However, since there's a bug in the MP4 parser (apparently), the main thing to do is get one of those files into my grubby hands and then we can go from there!
OK--I'll create account now and send you an mp4. What i meant to say--all the m4vs are coming through--ie Nip Tuck--all the files that were m4v's did come through and the 3 mp4's didn't...sorry I confused you. The .m4v's are all fine--just wondering if you might like a nip tuck m4v to compare to the nip tuck mp4--but sounds like you don't need it!
Just a couple of minutes...
I'll check the fix for Lost--I missed that step!
And as for the other--it was so small i didn't even realize it WAS a mini-player. Ill mess around with it and let you know.
Nip Tuck--episode 3 "nanette babcock"http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12722133/Nanette%20Babcock.mp4
Mad Men--from season 1--'ladies room"http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12722133/Ladies%20Room.mp4
Let me know what else you need! Shannon
Hold the presses, this *might* be easier than I had thought. Go to Plex Online > More > Check for Updates and there should be a Scanners update (unless you got it automatically). Click the button to refresh and you *might* see all your missing episodes. We weren't reading in data from .mp4 files for some genius reason, only .m4v files :)
Elan--I'm not sure what happened--i did everything by the instructions and I'm seeing the files in the public dropbox with this link:
but...online (from a different computer) I can see the files but both at 0 kbps.
Maybe it's syncing--but here is another place you can look--in my public file on my idisk (mobile me)
(I know this is still syncing so give it a few minutes if you don't see two files)
good luck!
Man you are GOOD!!!
It worked!!!!! YOU (and the other guys) ROCK!!! ;)
So--that's fixed--i'll go through all the files and make sure they play properly.
Not to be ungrateful...
The only issue i still have--forgive me, but I can't figure out how to fix the Lost issue--showing up as "the lost room"--I don't have an apple remote, working with a key board and magic track pad--but can't right click on lost--do you know the keyboard keys to get there?
And...24 season 2 and season 4--in neither one can i see the video--that "mini player" isn't really playing anything--the timer across the bottom speeds on by but no sound/no video. tabbing doesn't work, full screen toggle--can't figure it out. Here is another screen shot

--but it is only 24--all others play properly and the other seasons of 24 work as well. I believe these were downloaded from apple store a couple of years ago...but other applestore downloads work fine.
If you hear of anything that might relate, please keep me in mind--not urgent...yet... B)
Thanks again!!! Shannon
You'll need to go to the Plex Media Manager for now, and right click on the Lost show to fix the match.
http://idisk.me.com/efeingold/Public/Pictures/Skitch/Fullscreen-20101004-163641.jpg
We'll make this possible from the Media Center application at some point.
If it's from the Apple Store and has DRM, then it for sure won't play in Plex; this is a limitation imposed by Apple, we can't do anything about it.
Ah - ok - I wasn't aware of that the TV scanner isn't supporting flat files... sorry about the noise...
Not at all! Sorry we don't support it yet :)
Elan-
I was able to rename Lost--
And--darn Apple! I love Apple but bummer...But thanks a LOT for telling me--will save a lot of frustration! I'll probably add something to the name of these shows to prevent them from syncing so i don't have to remember! ;)
Aloha and thank you!
PS: I'm going to 'positive rep' you--is there anything else or anyone else I can tell what a great job you do? And if you ever want any uploads, you know where to come! (now that I know how to do it! :))
I have a couple of TV shows that defy attempts to scan correctly.
The first is “New York: A Documentary Film” which has the folder name “New York A Documentary Film” to avoid the “:” issues on my NAS. It exists in the TVDB here. The scanner fails to find it and when I go to fix incorrect match and then Search with “New York” only, it fails to find the series.
The second is “Vietnam: A Television History” which has the folder name “Vietnam A Television History” to avoid the “:” issues on my NAS. It exists in the TVDB here. The scanner fails to find it and when I go to fix incorrect match and then Search with “Vietnam” only, it fails to find the series.
I suspect the colon “:” in the series name is the issue for the scanner.
Let's be careful to distinguish between "scanner" issues and "agent" issues.
The scanner is responsible for getting your media into the database, so that it shows up.
The agent is responsible for getting posters and data about your media.
The problem you're seeing is a agent one (an issue matching). I suspect you can work around it for now by doing a manual search (click on "Search" in the Fix Match results) and then type in the TVDB ID.
The good news is that we're working on much improved search functionality, which will be pushed before too long.
I'll try the TVDB ID approach and see if that works. Thanks.
Don’t know if this is an known issue, but I had some problems getting “The Rock” to show up in Media Manager.
It did not recognize:
The Rock (1996) > The.Rock.DTS.5.1.720p.OAR.x264-LsE.mkv
I solved it by changing the name:
The Rock (1996) > therock.mkv
It seems strange, since the original file name didn’t contain any special letters or symbols.
Just wanted to let you know.
Thanks for a great app!
Hi there everyone,
I love Plex and am sure .9 will outply them all out there – it’s a great app and where you are going with .9 is outstanding. Keep going folks, this is the best media management app i’ve ever used…
While checking out plex .9 i discovered some weirdnesses with Music scanning.
Initially i saw several Albums that show only part of the tracks (3 of 12 or so) they should have, so i started to dig a little more into it. Here’s what i discovered so far:
- Scanner does not pick up mp3s in top level directory
When i add a folder to a Music section that contains several MP3s they are not picked up by the Music scanner. I created the folder SharedMusic/3 Doors Down containing all tracks of an Album (no sub-level folder for the Album itself) and added it to my Music Section, the scanner did not pick up any of the Tracks nor did the artist show in PMM. Media scanner log shows:
<br />
Oct 07, 2010 15:36:23 [0xa00e3500] DEBUG - Scanning Music-Test2 with 23 current items in the database...<br />
Oct 07, 2010 15:36:23 [0xa00e3500] DEBUG - * Scanning /SharedMusic/3 Doors Down<br />
Oct 07, 2010 15:36:23 [0xa00e3500] DEBUG - * Scanning directory /SharedMusic/3 Doors Down<br />
Oct 07, 2010 15:36:23 [0xa00e3500] DEBUG - * Taking directory '' (2806) out of the map (2 left)<br />
Oct 07, 2010 15:36:23 [0xa00e3500] DEBUG - * Scanning /SharedMusic/Nickelback<br />
Oct 07, 2010 15:36:23 [0xa00e3500] DEBUG - * Scanning directory /SharedMusic/Nickelback<br />
I then created a sub-level folder and moved the tracks there (SharedMusic/3 Doors Down/3 Doors Down) and voila - the scanner picked up the Album, the tracks and the artist info showed in PMM as well.
2) Missing Album tracks
Another weirdo - Initially i saw that many of my Albums (from my large Music collection) only contained 3 or so songs out of the complete track list. When testing i found a few hickups.
2.1) Problems scanning mp3s with 3 digit track numbers
It seems as if the scanner fails to load tracks into the DB if they are constructed with 3 digit track numbers (example: 001-Nickelback-Something In Your Mouth.mp3 etc..). When i looked into the Plex Media Scanner.log file i found something like the below:

Oct 07, 2010 12:26:39 [0xa00e3500] DEBUG - * Scanning Nickelback / Dark Horse<br />
Please note the "index" numbering on the above "Added new media item" entries.
(album=Dark%20Horse&album_artist=Nickelback&artist=Nickelback&**index=0**&name=Burn%20It%20To%20The%20Ground)
(album=Dark%20Horse&album_artist=Nickelback&artist=Nickelback&**index=0**&name=Gotta%20Be%20Somebody)
(all subsequent songs of this album where added with index=0) I can only make the assumption that the index number has something to do with the effects i have seen as the tracks i saw in the Plex client where 0, 1 and 11...
To prove whether the issue is really caused by the 3 digit track numbers I copied the album to a different path and renamed the files (e.g. 01-Nickelback-Something In Your Mouth.mp3) added that path as a new Section under PMM. The scanner now picks up all tracks perfectly fine and the album shows all 11 songs in the Plex Client.
2.2) ID3 Tag info vs. File names
Another reason i found for missing tracks is when the ID3 Tag info does not correspond with the file names. I had an Album where 1 track was missing, i found that i mistakenly named the mp3 files with incorrect track numbering starting at 2... (Files where named 2 through to 13) This resulted in the scanner going weird resulting in Plex showing me track1 then 3 etc up to 12 (that's the number of songs on the album). Hence track number 2 was missing and the second song became track # 3 - the last song should have then been track # 13 but it was missing.
Once i copied and renamed the files appropriately (starting with 01 to 12) they where scanned in fine and the album now shows all tracks as they should be....
So I am wondering when the ID3 Tag info comes into play. With both tests above i left the tag info untouched (I know the Tags are all fine as i am using various players and PCs to access the music) i only copied the mp3 files and re-named them...
so far for now. I do hope that i haven't done anything silly and waste your time here, but in case Not ;-) i hope the above is of some help for improving the scanners....
Last but not least -
in PMM all i can get to right now is the artist info, are there any plans to incorporate Album info and hence "fix incorrect.." function in PMM. Or is there any other place i can fix incorrect Album info??
Thanks again for all your hard work giving us such a great app.
H
Second this. Can confirm the same issue. I do not want to reorganize my mp3's with nested folders for albums/artists etc..., and would prefer to just have one flat directory. Would love to see this addressed.
Many Thanks!
So as it turns out, the problem was that none of those shows had episode numbers in the iTunes meta data(which may also adjust the mp3 metadata). Adding episode numbers did the trick.
