I’ve got a serious problem with scanning my movies folder:
it worked very well since a couple days ago, then all the movies disappeared but those directly into the section folder, the ones in subfolders won’t get scanned at all.
Example:
/Volumes/Data/movie1.mkv <— scanned and scraped correctly
/Volumes/Data/movie2/movie2.mkv <— not scanned at all
I’ve already tried removing the section and adding in back, same problem.
I’ve also tried incremental build, and still no luck.
Any hint?
attached are logs from a fresh install of .9.1.2. Only 5 of my TV shows are scanned. Prior to this, everything was working fine from first build to the even hotter fix. However, I noticed recently that some Lost episodes I added about a week ago never scanned in. I forced refreshed and it did nothing. I removed the section and re-added. All but 5 shows disappeared. I then whacked everything: L/AS, plists, cache, and client. Started fresh, no dice. All of my files are mkv, mov, or mp4 and all named properly, eg Showname_SXXEYY. I have two externals that I draw from and my shows are organized normally:
/Volumes/Annapurna/TV Shows/Season
/Volumes/Whitney/TV Shows 2/Season
Movies on the same two volumes scan great and add metadata quickly. The 5 TV shows that scan, however, do not add metadata at all (nor media analysis) unless i right click on each one and refresh info (shift refreshing does nothing).
I then took an episode from one show that is not scanning, Lost, and created a new directory : /Volumes/Annapurna/Test/Lost/Season 1/Lost_S01E01 and created a new section in PMS. This works.
Renaming my original TV Shows folder to /Volumes/Annapurna/Test so that the name and structure would be EXACTLY the same I am haunted by the same 5 shows. Same thing if I then add that directory to my “test” section that just workedplex logs.zip (78.4 KB).
[EDIT]: to follow up I created a new directory on the same volume and started plopping my Show folders in there. It went fine until “Moonshot.” Moonshot showed up as name and gray poster, but did not do media analysis or fetch data. If I refresh or force refresh it does nothing. But if I right click on it and refresh info it then does the analysis and pulls data. However, all of my shows after that will not scan at all still. I found some scanner crash logs attached.
Elan, please take a look at this thread http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/19863-plex-wont-find-movie-thats-in-its-own-folder/
Sorry, I should have posted it here to begin with.
I have a directory structure which looks like
+tv/
- Sharpe/
- Season 1/
- Sharpe.S01E01-Sharpes Rifles.avi
- Sharpe.S01E02-Sharpes Eagle.avi
There are 5 other seasons, all named similarly. Every other show in the tv directory works fine but, for some reason, Sharpe seems to show up as Tosh.0.
Even weirder - it’s not actually the top Sharpe directory, a reveal in Finder shows that it’s matching only agains tv/Sharpe/Season 5/Sharpe.S05E03.Sharpes Waterloo.avi i.e the very last file in that directory if the files were lexically sorted.
Trying to fix incorrect match by search for Sharpe brings up the results:
Tosh.0
Chase (2010)
Falcon Crest
Pawn Stars
Grey’s Anatomy
Masterpiece Theatre
despite a search on TheTVDB for ‘Sharpe’ returning the correct result
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=71462&lid=7
Any ideas?
Simon
- Sharpe.S01E01-Sharpes Rifles.avi
- Season 1/
We're working on improving search. For now, please enter the TVDB code (71642) and it fine it without problem :)
I’ll look into this issues, shortly. I apologize for the trouble; we pushed some fixes out for scanners which may have resulted in a change of behavior. As always, thanks for your patience and assistance tracking these issues down, by posting full pathnames of files that are not being scanned!
Can you give me some specific examples of exact filenames? I'm not able to reproduce a problem over here.
All my series are recognized correctly, only “breaking bad” isn’t found at all.
Tried everything I’ve read here, it’s just not showing up.
NM. Sorry, just realized you replied to the other post.
for my issue I have tracked it down to a single file, and it appears to be something about the file itself. If I rename some other file with its name it will scan so it’s not the name structure. But that original file will not, and in fact if it is present at all in my watched folder then it poisons the whole thing and 23 of 28 shows disappear/won’t scan at all. The 5 that do show up only show up as names-- no media analysis, thumb, or metadata. This file has been there since the launch of .9 and did not have any problems until somewhere around the .9.1 timeframe. It is still playable fine and .85 will scrape it no problems. I’ll see if I trim the file if it behaves the same–if it does I’ll upload it. ALso, this is not computer specific as it does this on my Imac too. The file is an mp4 created in Handbrake from bluray ripped mkv.
The National Parks-America’s Greatest Idea_S01E03_Empire of Granduer.mp4
A note about matching too–I had to baby this series to get the right metadata. It merged it with South Park once and Parks and recreation in another. Fix match search does not have it, but TVDB id forces it. The “initial” agent from .9.0 or .8.5 etc got it right the first time. Hopefully with age the agents can grow wiser when you have title, episode number, and episode title in the filename to really hone in.
Can you paste in here some specific examples of full pathnames/filenames of your episodes for that show?
Thanks :)
Please upload it for me so that I can reproduce the crash, if that's what's happening.
Having only used Plex for a very brief time so far, I’m finding the media manager and automated library scanning to be pretty nice. However, I noticed I have one artist, Air, which should have five albums, but only four are showing up as scanned into the Plex library.
According to iTunes, the music files have ID3 tag ver. 2.2 and this is an example of the file/folder structure for the problem album:
\Volumes\Volume_1\Media\iTunes\Music\Air\Moon Safari\01 La Femme d’Argent.mp3
What are the possible reasons for this (XBMC, iTunes, Boxee all scan that album just fine)? And, is there a method for manually adding the album?
Hi Elan,
Any chance you post a brief comment re the Music scanning issues and your plans/timelines approaching those please?
There are numerous posts outlining issues around Music data scanning. If we had a bit more of an idea where those issues are on your priority list it’ll be a little easier to stay calm
thanks much

I have a question about splitting. Is there anyway to combine after you split? I have recently been having issues with the shows Sanctuary and Stargate SG-1, where all the Stargate SG-1 episodes are suddenly combining with Sanctuary. To fix this I either had to removed everything, scan, then add 1 by 1 adding again, or use the “Split” function in the media manger. The problem is I had Sanctuary info in 2 different folders (1 for files, 1 for netflix streams). After the split I could move the Stargate SG-1 episodes to the right place, but now I have 2 Sanctuary folders. Any way to combine those 2 back into 1? Sorry if that is confusing!
EDIT Moved to correct thread… sorry
Cant get metadata for The Walking Dead. Thoughts?
I have the same trouble. Many of my albums have ID3 tags, however i can't see them in the music section. It seems like
- Either they are merged with other
- or they are not recognized and they are not showing up at all
Is there a way to add/change them manually
For now it requires ID3 tags to scan; since that album has tags, please contact me and send me a link to it so that we can run the scanner over here and figure out why it's not getting into the library!
Our plans are to improve all the scanners over time :) Right now our main priority is finishing up local metadata editing, which is going well.
What are the features/fixes you'd most like to see in the music scanner?
