I am running a DS1618+ Synology Drive with 6 bays each containing 13TB Seagate Iron Wolf drives. There are NO errors on the drive, nothing to indicate an with the hardware. However, within that last week, I have accumulated 2-3 thousand images that I have placed into device library folders. Then created the library within Plex and it began to scan photos. It would scan for a bit and then all of a sudden lose connection with I am assuming the physical folders. I have done this twice now and am getting worried.
Could a corrupt image cause this issue? And if so, then why wouldn’t my Synology device show some kind of error…
I will find the logs and send them. Also, thought of something else. While I was trying to track down why it was hanging, I went very carefully through the photos that I was trying to put on. I selected a few at first and was able to add folder after folder once I had verified them as good images. But, I came onto several folders that contained Nikon NEF images in subfolders. I wondered if the scanning was going to have issues trying to read them and timing because of that. So, I removed them to another location and placed the remaining JPGs and PNGs to the location and started the scan. This time, it went all the way through ALL of my images without a disconnect.
Now, while I am not keen on looking for a better synology drive that is faster, I would be interested in your take on what a replacement model might be worth looking at.
I have managed since the Pandemic (since we couldn’t go anywhere) to scan every negative, slide and photo that I could find, added all Digital images and iPhone images to the tune af about 1/4 million images. I have opened up my Plex to my brothers and sisters for viewing and in some cases have added images from them (very few at this point).
Any where I travel I have access to them and have raised a lot of interest in others about doing the same thing. I have recommended Plex in all cases when asked.
