My PMS on an older Mac keeps crashing

Server Version#: 1.25.6.5577
Player Version#:

This happens every few days and I need to log onto the server and simply start plex again. Anyone got any idea what could cause this?

Log files capturing the crash would help. Someone familiar with running PMS on a Mac might be able to spot the problem.

  1. Make sure your server is configured for debug, not verbose, logs.
SettingsServer_Name → General (Not Settings → Plex Web → General).
  2. After the next crash, restart Plex
  3. Wait ~3 minutes for Plex to start and the logs to capture the startup sequence.
  4. Pull the logs and attach the entire ZIP file to the thread.
Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs

Thanks very much.

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-03-15_11-41-53.zip (4.0 MB)
it always seems to happen over night, so not sure how easy it will be to find the time, but logs attached, all help gratefully received.

It’s going to be one of the Scheduled tasks that occur every few days.

My guess, Refresh local metadata. Do you use Local Metadata or store mp4 files?

Thanks for the log files.

It looks like you’ve some unsupported formats in your TV Show library.
Mar 14, 2022 02:03:15.564 [0x70000b77a000] ERROR - IntroDetector: Failed to transcode file (1): /Volumes/LaCie/TV Series/Heidi/HEIDI_TV_SERIE_8/VIDEO_TS/VTS_02_0.VOB

Plex cannot read ISO/DVD/Blu-ray disc layouts. See Converting ISO, Video_TS, and Other Disk Image Formats.

Move those files to a location not scanned by Plex. Then scan the library, empty trash, and clean bundles. This will clear the information out of the Plex database. See screenshot below.

Use MakeMKV or similar tools to rip the content into a MKV container and then add the MKV files to your Plex library.

The Plex server crashed during thumbnail generation during scheduled tasks. This is the last entry in Plex Media Server.1.log (~3.5 minutes after error mentioned above):
Mar 14, 2022 02:06:46.071 [0x70000b56e000] DEBUG - [Transcode] Activity: updated activity caf81761-818b-4d6c-b0dc-d8d20a88a131 - completed 27.6% - Generating video preview thumbnails

I cannot tell for which media thumbnails were being generated, so I do not know if the crash is related to the unsupported files.

Suggest you first move the unsupported media out of your libraries, then see what happens.

If the server crashes again, pull a new set of log files and we’ll see where it crashed.
