My wish for plex playback - thumbnail scrubbing like

On most Netflix players that I've used and also the PS3 native video player, the systems support a thumbnail scrubbing mode.  I'm not 100% sure that's the correct term though because I'm not talking about actually scanning through a video, but just flipping into a scene selection mode.

Upon further research, PS3 called this "Scene Search" and Netflix calls it "timeline"  (see attached images for example)

It's a feature I sorely miss with both the native XBOX One media player and the PLEX player apps for XBOX One and PS4.

I though that Plex supported "media indexes" where it would index the contents of the video in order to support this feature.

Are there some player platforms where this feature is implemented (roku maybe?) and others where it is not (XBONE/PS4)?

Settings -> Server -> Library -> Generate video preview thumbnails

As a note, this can take up A LOT of drive space if you have a large library. It's also not available on all clients, the Xbox One app has them but they are broken in the current release. Hopefully that will be fixed in the upcoming update that Dom C has mentioned in the Xbox One forum.

Thanks Adam, I've definitely done this on the plex server side.  I've tested in on the xbox one, and if it's currently broken then that explains why I can't see them.  I wonder if it's just not supported on the PS4?

If anyone from the plex team is listening, I'd happily upgrade from a 12 mo subscription to a lifetime sub if this was implemented well.  The PS3 native player is just SO EXCELLENT in this respect, it's sort of hard to change gears.

:o)

Has a solution for this been found yet? It’s probably the single biggest reason I’m holding out on upgrading from a PS3 (using PS3 Media Server) to a PS4 using Plex.

It seems to me that most people don’t know scrubbing can be done so there hasn’t been much demand for the feature. But it’s a really nice feature and I just can’t replace my PS3 as a media player until a viable solution is in place for the PS4 (or whatever will come after the PS4).
