I’m on Plex 1.40 (11798) for tvOS and when I use the regular player, I have video thumbnails while scrubbing a file. Using the Enhanced Player, I dont have the thumbnails while scrubbing. Is this feature going to be included in the new Enhanced Player?
Will the enhanced player ever support on-the-fly thumbnail previews? The native player does it and also Infuse’s own player does it.
Any update on this?
Really? Well I just learned something new.
I think the native player can only show on the fly thumbnails when both video and audio direct play so most likely MP4 with AC3/EAC3, which Apple loves.
That may explain it.
99.9% of my 90TB is .mkv and infuse didn’t care about such things.
I’m happy to keep generating them on the server then for now.
Thanks for the heads up.
This isn’t about the native player, it’s about the enhanced player. We shouldn’t lose functionality with the enhanced player. If Infuse can do it, Plex should be able to
No one suggested it was.
I just hadn’t realised the native player had the ability either.
It’s literally stated in the original post lol
What would be better is if the Plex Enhanced player could do on the fly thumbnails for all video formats like infuse is able to, not just MP4 videos which the native player does.
Yeah and never worked for me.
But I’m assuming here that @Nik3sh was correct with the files needing to be mp4?
Could some dev please chime in and tell us if video previews is an upcoming feature?
+1 to see this as well
I wouldn’t hold your breath, they are even gone from the Native player now, with no sign of coming back.
I know. It’s sad but as usual there’s no response from Plex.
Using INFUSE for a while now. They’ve got other issues but at least there are preview thumbs without the need to use a server to pre-generate them.
I may be totally wrong on this.
I just kind of assumed when Plex on tvOS comes out of beta the native player will be gone.
I highly doubt Plex will offer two playback engines going forward.
