Let’s assume that enough people share their usage data to Plex servers. Why not use them publicly and generate Daily, Weekly, Monthly TOP charts like:


  • Plex: This weeks TOP Movies
  • Todays Top Music by Genre
  • Most viewed TV shows
  • etc…etc… (Insert your fav. list name)





    Feature should be only available to users who share their usage data. This way you can show more accurate trends/charts.

Nothing of what you or anyone else plays is collected by Plex.

What does checkbox means in General settings: “Send anonymous usage data to Plex” with description “This helps us improve your experience (for example, to help us match movies and TV shows).”

It’s mostly for things like “Fix Incorrect Match” - the system feeds back to our servers so we can make the agents better at matching strangely named files.



Certain apps are also starting to collect playback information, but nothing about what’s actually being played, just the duration of playback and the source (e.g. 2 hours from the local library, 10 minutes from YouTube). We have no way of knowing specifically who was playing content, or what the content was.

I see. Guess I should have requested for collecting anonymous playback data :slight_smile:



I do not want to go deeper for some sort of privacy talks/discussions so I will prefer wait and see approach. For me it’ s not a problem or even concern but I am sure that there will be someone strongly disagree.

Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (Plex dashboard)
