I just received an unprofessional looking spam mail for the “New Plex VPN service” from sales@mysafevpn.com:
Is this legit?
Since when did Plex start selling my data for advertising?
Best

This is absolutely not a Plex affiliated service or offering. If anything, it suggests that mysafevpn.com is super sketchy and we would recommend using almost any other VPN service with your Plex Media Server.
Hey everyone. This is not us! We were also taken by surprise as many Plex employees received the same email, myself included. We’re seeing very similar emails going out from the same outfit to former Boxee users as well. We are investigating and reporting them to their service and mail providers, but believe this could be related to the 2015 forums breach.
Then they waited long enough using that list though
I was amused by the sketchiness of it though ■■■■■■ spammers too, seeing they’re using MailChimp, so they’ll have been blocked already, if there’s one thing MailChimp does not like, it’s spammers.
I called the number (figured that was safe enough) - some guy answers (just says hello) and says they are launching a vpn service. I commented about their use of the Plex name - response was that there are Plex employees on their team. Guy had an american or canadian accent. Odd - not what I expected. With Plex being a virtual company, maybe there’s a rag-tag bunch of folks out there using the name inappropriately!

I got this email too and took me a while to find this forum thread saying its fake. I assume most people are not searching the forums to see if its spam or not. Can you guys send out an email telling users that this fake? Before they get a hold of a lot of customers’ credit card numbers.
