I just received an email from mysafevpn claiming that they are a new Plex service. I’m guessing they got emails from the previous breach and are now targeting Plex users. “Plex reveals new VPN business” was the headline. This is just an FYI to watch out for something that seems very phishy or trying to take advantage of Plex users.
I got it too. Made my own post about it here. Got an uneasy feeling.
However, it seems this post has more discussion than mine, so go there.
This definitely looks spammy, and the fact that it didn’t come from a @plex.tv email definitely makes me feel like its dirty.
I have notified Mailchimp Abuse about this
This is absolutely not a Plex affiliated service or offering. If anything, it suggests that mysafevpn.com is super sketchy and we would recommend using almost any other VPN service with your Plex Media Server.
Hey everyone. This is not us! We were also taken by surprise as many Plex employees received the same email, myself included. We’re seeing very similar emails going out from the same outfit to former Boxee users as well. We are investigating and reporting them to their service and mail providers, but believe this could be related to the 2015 forums breach.
Yeah, this looked really phishy. Their website didn’t reference Plex or any affiliation with Plex. Glad my suspicions were confirmed.
I even gave them a call… they claim Plex devs work for them. So I asked them about a guy with the same name as me. Only one person with my name at Plex, and they confirmed that I’m a dev on their team! B)

I guess that is really not too possible. You spend way to much time here to have much remaining for a second life.
Actually, as I said in another post, this is so obviously a scam distributed by spam that I doubt even the most gullible will fall for it.
