N64 ‘Z’ button mapping

Anyone else suddenly having issues with controller support? Specially it seems like the mapping for the ‘Z’ button on N64 (Parellel) is not working. I’ve tried it on different clients (using both Xbox and PS4 controllers) up to this point it had both mapped to the back trigger button. Now suddenly it stopped working and no other button seems to be mapped to the ‘Z’.

I just started trying out Plex Arcade today, and I had same issue with Z button. I wasn’t around before this though when apparently it did work, so I’ve only ever experienced it not working.

Any updates on this?? It’s rather frustrating, as now all N64 games are lacking core functionality. The “Z” button is a huge factor in most games. Is there a way to map buttons within the Plex arcade client we’re unaware of?

yeah was just trying to play Goldeneye and i couldn’t shoot anyone lol.
Needs to be fixed as it stops a lot of games playing on the Parallels N64 core.
@elan could you perhaps get someone to look into this as we dont have any way of remapping controller buttons in Plex Arcade.

I ordered a usb N64 Controller and even with that it is not mapping the Z trigger to anything. Makes Goldeneye and many other games very difficult to play

In Ocarina of Time, I got as far as Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly, but I absolutely need the Z trigger to finish it.

@elan is anyone from plex looking into this mapping issue? it’s a real pain in the ■■■■ not being able to use the Z trigger. This needs to be mapped to another key. should be able to use either of the trigger buttons on generic Xbox controller as N64 can us ZL and ZR for L and R and then the L and R trigger could be mapped to Z Trigger for N64. Better still, just allow us access to controller settings to map controllers for individual games. We could also do with being allowed to choose which controller is assigned to P1, P2 etc as other bluetooth devices such as headsets can mean P1 doesnt get the first controller

Yes, @deactivated has just been looking into it and we’re making tweaks to support the Z button.

We’ve sorted out the broken Z button mapping problem, sorry everyone that it festered so long. An improvement in our game transcoder broke the Z button mapping used by our players.

Plex Web, Android, and iOS/tvOS are each making and fixing their mappings.

thats great so is it in the next update for Plex server?
I’ll keep an eye out for the updates on the clients.

My understanding is the fix will be in the clients, not the server.

Correct.

when are we going to see the Z button mapping issue fixed for the web client? Just tried it on the latest build and its still not working for me.I’ve tried with an xbox/switch controller and also with a usb N64 controller and neither one has the trigger buttons mapping to Z button.

It’s on track for release this week to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/. An update to Plex Web bundled with PMS will happen in the coming weeks.

Too, that N64 USB controller will likely be troublesome. I’ve had poor success with predictable input mapping for my retro controllers through adapters. I’ve had success with XB1, Switch, and PS4 controllers.

Just checking on the status of the z-button issue. I’ve seen new updates to plex web, apple tv os, and ios but nothing in any of the changelog says anything about z-button getting fixed.

We missed the release note in Plex Web’s 4.57 release, in production now. I’ve confirmed that the Z button is mapped to triggers using Super Smash Bros. Pressing L2 or R2 shields where as R1 throws when pressed and shields when held.

It looks likely to be fixed in Android 8.19. And, I believe the iOS/tvOS fix should be live now or imminently; it was in beta around May 17 with a release scheduled for this week. Release timelines sometimes shift.

is there a way to turn down the sensitivity on the analogue joysticks?

Hi @Grooverider2016, no, no way to adjust sensitivity.
