I seen that, im looking for it to list both ep under ep8 or give ep8 (1) ep 8 (2). Not just ep8 then it play part a that is 45min with intro and exit then play part b (another 45 min) with intro and exit.
At the end of the day using pt1 and pt2 maybe the best i can do.
Cross over episodes are not well handled. To get meta-data to pull from thetvdb you should name “legends of today” as The Flash (2014) - s02e08 and “legends of yesterday” as Arrow - s04e08. The metadata for each of the episodes describes the crossover. If you have no intention of having other The Flash episodes then you could add “legends of today” as a special eg Arrow - s00e41 and manually create the metadata. If you take this route then you may wish to edit Arrow - s04e07 - Brotherhood to indicate that you should watch The Flash (2014) - s02e08 next.
You could add both episodes to Arrow as Arrow - s04e08 - part1 and Arrow - s04e08 - part2 as CWalllace suggested but personally I don’t like it as a solution as it will treat the two episodes as one so the metadata will be wrong and need editing in any case. There is also a warning that not all players support stacked media so it may not work for you.
Look it up on TheTVDB. You will probably not find 2-part episodes on there. And since Plex is using TheTVDB to fetch its metadata, go with how it’s organized over there.
Here is a trick for watching shows which do crossover episodes, if you’re collecting the other shows as well:
It is as you say a workaround, and for me has a number of limitations. Not the least of which are that the playlist is temporary (in that watched items are removed) so if I re-watch a series I have to create the playlist again. Also I use plex home so it doesn’t seem like a good way to go for me.
No. There is nothing temporary about it.
If you want to rewatch it, then reset the ‘played’ status of the whole series before starting to watch. If you want to watch the crossover episodes then reset ‘played’ status of the other show(s) as well.
After doing that, the playlist will get populated again, because it is a so-called ‘smart playlist’.
The same applies if new episodes of those existing shows are added to your server.
Not sure what you are implying. The ‘played’ status is stored separately for every member of a Plex Home. So the approach will work for every member of your Home independently.
The only fly in the ointment is this: since you cannot share playlists with other users, each user has to create this smart playlist his/herself.
You’ll have to do that only once for each user. And if you’ve done that for two users already, I suppose you can recreate it in under a minute for each remaining user.
As admin, you can ‘Switch User’ into each of your managed user accounts and create the playlist for them.
(while you’re there, you can also give their language preferences and their avatars a look )
Can you do playlists across libraries? In the past I have moved films that have become TV series into the specials of the TV Series so I wouldn’t have to do that if you can.
