Is it possible to play the DTS audio codec natively on Windows 10 (Mobile). My Plex Media Server has to transcode every movie with DTS audio to play it on the Plex client.
As far as I know, the Universal Windows Platform on Windows 10 doesn’t provide native support for DTS audio. I’d love to be proven wrong though.
But the VLC-Player for Windows Store is able to play the same movie file without any problems. Is it possible to manually add the DTS codec for the Plex Media Player?
That is because VLC-Player is not playing by Dolby’s book. DTS is a paid format, so you can’t just decode the format without paying royalties to Dolby. VLC uses a library for that which contains this warning:
Provisional Warning: DTS Inc. claims that use of libdca software, to decode DTS compressed sound data on a DVD could violate DTS’s patent rights. If you are unsure about the legality of using and distributing this code in your country, in particular in the USA, please consult your lawyer before downloading it.
So there is no chance to play DTS natively in the app, ins’t it?
My Win10 machine is connected to an AVR that directly supports DD, DTS, DTS-MA, and TrueHD. I have configured Windows Sound Properties with all of the supported formats. Given that, would Plex for Win 10 at least pass through the bitstream?
