I have received no responses since posting in Fire TV section. I know cross posting can be frowned upon, but I wasn’t sure how to get the post into this section, and this is a Live TV/Guide issue, though it happens on the Fire TV app. To me this is a bug, unless there is something I am missing.
This also happens with sideloaded fire tv app 9.0.6.31998 which provides the Discover and Watchlist features which are great. That’s the main reason I’m considering switching from Emby.
This bug is easily reproducible and is sort of a deal breaker at this point. I have a Plex pass and an HDHomerun HDHR5-4US. Here are the steps to reproduce the error:
- Select a live tv channel from the guide and begin watching
2 Press up (the circle control on the fire tv remote) to display the guide - After looking at the guide, but not selecting a different show, navigate to the lower left/upper right diagonal arrows in the inset picture to return to the current show to make it full screen again, press OK on the remote. Everything is fine with the fast forward/rewind buffer intact
- repeat the process while watching the show. Press up on the fire tv remote to display the guide.
- navigate to the lower left/upper right diagonal arrows on the inset picture to return to full screen
- the second time through, it’s as if the client retunes to the channel it’s already on and the rewind/fast forward buffer is lost.
The same thing happens if the program from the guide is selected instead of using the diagonal arrows to return to the program being currently watched in the inset in the upper right. It works correctly the first time, but the second time of displaying the guide and returning to the show, the buffer is lost.
This also happens when watching a currently recording show
- When selecting a program that is being currently recorded from the guide, a menu pops up as expected asking to watch from the start or watch live, select watch from start.
- press up on the fire remote (the top on the circle control as before)
- navigate to the diagonal arrows on the inset picture to return to the current show being watched to make it full screen again, press ok on the remote. The current show being played is brought full screen in the proper place in the timeline.
- once full screen, press up again on the fire tv remote to display the guide again and the picture is inset in the upper right.
- navigate to the diagonal arrows (or return to the guide and select the show being currently played) to resume the current show full screen and press OK on the remote
- the menu appears to watch from start or watch live. It doesn’t just make the show full screen again in the proper place
At least if the show is being recorded, you can watch and fast forward to desired location. If the show is not being recorded and you are behind on the timeline, the second time through displaying the guide, the buffer is lost with no way to ‘catch up.’
This appears to be a bug and not an issue with the way I am navigating since the expected behavior happens the first time through displaying the guide, but not the second. Thanks.
