Please take a look at Can transcoding be made to pipe into RAM only? over on Plex Forums > Plex Media Server > Mac.
If the destination of the transcoding temp file can’t easily be made to go to RAM, then perhaps at least a user-configurable file ***size *** and ***particular dedicated destination folder ***would help a lot for SSD users who would like to get it piped to a RAM disk.
PMS should obey the TMPDIR environment variable if you point it elsewhere, for transcode jobs.
“TMPDIR environment variable,” eh? OK, I did my due diligence with a search before opening my big mouth, and found an open, unanswered thread, “How to change temp dir?” in *Plex Media Server > Linux, *in which you, **elan, **suggested a year ago that a future version may become user-configurable. In the meantime, could you or somebody familiar with the Macintosh PMS tell us the location of the file in which to edit TMPDIR? Thanks!
Does anyone know the location on a Macintosh of the file in which to edit the “TMPDIR environment variable”?
