I have my Plex server mounted on a Shield TV, The player and server are the latest version available for the SHield and a few weeks ago I lost the ability to see the DLNA server. My KEF app can no longer see Plex and same with USB Audio Player Pro and my PC. It’s gone from my entire network. I have not done any changes to PLex or my router (that I know of) so it’s pretty strange. I never had problems with that before and I’ve been using PLex (and DLNA) for over 2 years. I have limited knowledge about networking in general but I have read a lot to educate myself hoping to find a solution, but I did not. I restarted the router and plex server many times with no result.
In the console, I have two errors coming back repetitively about every 30sec.
Again, I search the net for these two errors and they all seems to point me to my problem, but I don’t know what to do of it. I’ve tried to play with about all settings in PMS web app to see if I had enabled or disabled something by mistake, but can’t see anything wrong. Of course DLNA is checked in th settings. I have no problem to do remote access, just can’t see Plex DLNA server anymore.
The 1st error message simply means that a request has timed out. This isn’t necessarily related to DLNA. The 2nd error is linked to Plex’ discovery functionality; certain requests should return an XML response with information about the device (e.g. used by routers or other network based accessories); this particular device sends something else or no XML at all – not linked to DLNA.
Basic DLNA troubleshooting:
“Forced” restart of the DLNA server
Uncheck the DLNA server (Settings > [Server Name] > DLNA > Enable DLNA Server).
Restart the Plex Media Server
Reactivate the DLNA server
Review that your Shield and the other devices are on the same subnet (DLNA doesn’t stream across networks)
Thanks for your help, but I already did that with no success.
Any other ideas of what I should try?
Could it be that the ‘‘DLNA Client Preferences’’ is the problem? This is what I have in there: IP=10.0.0.53,DirectPlay=false,DirectStream=false,LocalResolution=320x240,RemoteResolution=320x240,OnlineResolution=320x240,LocalVideoQuality=24,RemoteVideoQuality=24,OnlineVideoQuality=24,SubtitleSize=250,AudioBoost=250,MusicBitrate=320;IP=10.0.0.52,DirectPlay=false,DirectStream=false,LocalResolution=320x240,
This was generated by Plex. I tried to remove it and did not change a thing so I put it back.
Better don’t touch that. This stores a number of client preferences for certain DLNA devices which had been connected before – if you don’t know exactly what you change, the only thing this will cause is bad or broken playback. It’s got nothing to do with your DLNA server showing or not showing up.
Are all those devices on the same subnet inside your home network?
The problem seems to be with the Shield TV. I uninstalled PLex and restored the shield to manufacture settings, Reinstalled everything and no change. I also installed a server on my PC and all works fine. So yes, probably an update on the Shield that screwed up something. As much as I like to have the Plex server on the Shield because of its low energy consumption, I’m pretty done with it and will keep my Plex server on my PC.
