DLNA Stopped working after several months without issues (libPlexDlnaServer.so exited)

I’ve been using PLEX for a year on my NVIDIA Shield TV, and used DLNA to access media on my Oculus Quest 2.
I never ran into any problems until a week ago when I noticed my Oculus Quest, as well as any other devices, aren’t detecting the Plex DLNA anymore.
I also run an Emby server with DLNA on my NVIDIA SHIELD. That one is still visible and works correctly on every device instead.

Looking at the logs, I see that “libPlexDlnaServer.so” is having problems to launch.

My server Version# is 1.24.5.5173

Here’s what I tried so far to fix it, but to no avail:

  • I tried toggling DLNA off, restarting the plex server, then toggling it on and restarting it again.
    It still doens’t appear.

  • I tried re-installing both the Plex Server and Plex Player App on my Shield. It didn’t work either.

  • I tried deleting my Plex server and starting a new one from scratch, just to see if the DLNA would work in 100% mint condition. It didn’t work either.

  • Once again: the DLNA function works on the Emby Server installed on the same machine. And I made sure that the TCP and UDP ports necessary for the Plex DLNA are still open.

The DLNA feature of Plex is what made me just commit to a lifetime membership just a little while ago.
What can I do to fix this problem?

For those who are struggling with this: after pulling my hair for weeks, I solved it by downgrading to an August 2021 build of Plex TV and Plex Media Server on my Nvidia Shield.
So this is a bug caused by Plex I suppose.

Please can you let me know versions you are using & where i can download them. I believe the Shield has its own version of Plex & think most older versions are standard Android. Currently have 600 mp3 albums on my ext ssd hard drive that i no longer can access on my Yamaha System.

Plex DLNA support on Plex for NVidia Sield stopped working around 3 months ago, can Plex provide an updated build or please can somebody point me in direction of older build for Shield that works. I have a collection of over 400 mp3 albums on external ssd drive attached to my shield and normaly accessed by Yamaha Music System that no longer works. Yamaha Musiccast still see my HP Laptop but not Shgield.

Hi everyone, I have similiar issue. Plex media server hosted on Nvidia Shield pro stopped working as DLNA Server. I was able to play music from different devices through Plex running as DLNA server for years but recently it does not work no matter what I do.

I have tried enabling and disabling DLNA server in Plex > Settings > DLNA. Disabled secured connection under Settings > Network. Also restarted Shield many times but Plex won’t show up on any device in my home network.

Any recommendation or suggestion on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Use Kodi for Nvidia shield pro and enable UPNP/DLNA under the settings/services tab and you should be good to go. It even shows externally stored srt (subtitle) files on movies which is not internal to the movie’s video file, which never actually worked on Plex DLNA.

@BigWheel could you provide any update with regards to the /lib/arm64/libPlexDlnaServer.so' exit code for process error? With the latest server version I can still see this error.

I have found a workaround for this issue. I enabled KODI DLNA/UPNP on my nvidia shield pro, and was able to stream the movies to my LG Smart TV, using the KODI broadcasted DLNA. Just open the app on shield, goto Kodi settings, click on services, and then enable the radio buttons under UPNP/DLNA tab, and then you should be able to see another DLNA server popping up on your TV.

Looking at bug report does not look like the cause has been figured out, but the devs did move it up in priority a few days ago so they are likely getting more eyes on it to try to get it solved.
