Need help with Remote Access, new Internet service

I have two PCs, my plan was to download on one and have my Plex server on the other. After some work dealing with the VPN company. I set up split tunneling and all of my friends and family were able to reach and use my Plex server even if one or both of my PCs had the VPNs up. It worked like it was designed. It was great.

Then i messed up and changed Internet Provider which changed my IP address and now no one can access my Plex server even with the VPNs off.

My current IP is listed in the Public section of my remote access options. The only thing i did was tried to manually specify port 32400, i tried clicking it on and off and tested it online and the open port check tool could not find it. In the past i didnt have to do anything with the router etc… to get it to work.

I feel like this should be an obvious fix, that i just am not aware of. Anyone have any guidance? Greatly appreciated. TY

I don’t know much about setting up the remote stuff but from what I’ve read here, a lot of providers are using CGNAT which messes up the remote access. Who is your new provider?

I went from Comporium to Spectrum

They specifically felt the issue needed to be addressed by Plex or rather here…

I just checked it doesnt appear there is a CGNAT

AFAIK, Spectrum does not use CG-NAT.

If the Plex server PC has a VPN, then disable it until remote access is correctly working.

The VPN split tunneling, etc on the download PC has zero effect on Plex Media Server.

You need to configure a port forward statement in the router that forwards 32400/TCP to the PC running Plex Media Server.

THe VPNS are off. Im trying to figure now how to do the port forwarding…

curious, is the router your own or Spectrums? Do you have a cable modem? When my provider replaced my cable modem, they did so with a router/cable modem and I ended up double natted.

The router and modem are Spectrums. Here is where I am at…I spent alot of time with their tech support. We have it set up where by the remote access is working (green), i tested it. But when i got a friend to access it, they werent able to access it with the VPN on, only off. I dont know why all of a sudden this is an issue. I am going to run some more tests with friends later when they have time…

you can also test with your mobile phone if you have Plex on it. Just take it off wi-fi and it will then be outside your home network.

Unless needed for other purposes, suggest you leave the VPN disabled on the Plex server.

If you want to use the VPN on the Plex server, then you will have to set up split-tunneling, so Plex bypasses the VPN.

That i didnt know but was trying to figure out ty

Thats what I am doing, although i do have split tunneling set up.

TY everyone got it figured out, it was the public server we needed to get set up properly.
