Remote access won't work even though it did before

Server Version#:1.40.4.8679
Player Version#: any

Hello Plex community,

i’ve been using plex media server on my old Lenovo ThinkPad for a couple of months now and i have never gotten the remote access working.
It was running Windows 10 and everything worked except remote access. Every time i would try to connect to it from outside my network it would go over relay with max. 2 mbps. I am using NordVPN with split tunneling so my plex server doesn’t go through the VPN.

It would always be the same, I activated remote access and it would say its active until i changed the menu or clicked somewhere else on the plex UI and it would change to not available outside my network. Didn’t matter what it said it didn’t work anyways when I tried it.

I tried many things but everything i tried either came with a huge compromise or it just simply didn’t work. I have opened a port and tried choosing the port manually on plex but still nothing.

I was already giving up until I installed Windows 11 on the same machine and it suddenly just worked fine. I activated it the first time and it worked perfectly. Full quality outside my network. I used it happily for a month until my Laptop started crashing and i had to replace it.

I replaced it with the same model but now i am back to square one again. Same problem from the beginning with the remote access only showing for a couple of seconds that it works but then going back to nit available outside your network. Even though I installed Windows 11 from the beginning this time. Just now I have set my server as an exposed host in my routers port forwarding settings and ist stopped turning itself off and stays green but now it not available at all outside my network.

I thought it may be simply not possible because of my internet provider or something else but it worked for almost a month just fine.
What am I missing?

Please, any Help is welcome!
Thank you guys in advance, i’ve provided a .gif showing the behavior of the remote access settings from my server.

Looking at your gif image you do not have “manually specify port” enabled so it is not using your port forward and it just requesting a port via UPnP

It won’t work either way, enabling manual port forwarding results in the same problem.

What ISP do you have? We would probably need to see your server logs after you try to enable.

Hi,
my ISP is O2 Germany (Telefonica). Here are my logs.
Plex Media Server Logs_2024-07-29_19-31-48.zip (3.3 MB)
I hope these logs can help.

Thanks for looking into my problem!

Does anyone have an idea, what the problem ist?

Hello, ive got the exact same issue, started yesterday.

ISP Sweden Telenor, tried port forward aswell, no luck, restarted everything no luck. Dont want to fiddle to much as i know it was working for a long time.

I would make sure that your ISP is still providing you with a publicly routable IPv4 address. More and more ISPs are moving to IPv6 and IPv4 connectivity is provided via CG-NAT.

How do I check if I have a publicly routable IPv4 address?
And if not is there a solution for the CG-NAT problem?

I’d like to add that I am also having this issue, beginning on August 7, 2024. After hours of troubleshooting, I am still empty handed.

Once I click Retry on Remote Access, Plex confirms it is fully accessible outside of my network, but after a few seconds turns red and says “Not available outside of your network”. I am able to watch my content directly from the server, but nothing over my local network.

There must be something going on at the Plex side? My system has worked fine for over a year.

Call your ISP.

My ISP said public ipv4 aren’t available, but how come it worked a month earlier?

Probably plex relay

But it worked with original quality, no 2mbps cap.

@Big_Tasty_Bacon Your logs show it cannot map the port via UPnP . Is UPnP disabled in router?

It should be enabled, I also tried opening the port manually and it resulted in the same problem. I’ll be home in 2 days, i can have a look and check if UPNP is enabled.
Thanks for the hint. I’ll get back to you when I know more.

UPnP seems to be enabled. Should I disable it?
