Need to claim server every time I reboot on Kubuntu 24.04.1

Every time I reboot, the server becomes unclaimed and I need to claim it
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it makes no difference.

Usually caused by something breaking ownership/permissions of /var/lib/plexmediaserver.

sudo chown -R plex:plex /var/lib/plexmediaserver
sudo find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
sudo find /var/lib/plexmediaserver -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;

Now restart and reclaim

I don’t have a var/lib/plexmediaserver folder or a plex user or group. The closest I could find is /var/snap/plexmediaserver which is owned by root. I tried the chmod commands on that but it didn’t make any difference.

I didn’t know you were using snap.

The base path for PMS with snap is:

/var/snap/plexmediaserver/common/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server

Go into Cache.

Delete ‘cert-v2.dat’

If you don’t have one then I will need to see your logs because there is a different problem at play here

Many thanks. I found a cert-v2.p12 which I deleted. It recreated it when I claimed the server but I had to do it again when I restarted. I’ve attached the logs.

I found it.

  1. You’re using a WiFi adapter which is not playing nice with SNAP
  2. As PMS starts, it has no network.
  3. By the time it gets a network connection, it’s too late.

Your best choice here is to completely remove the SNAP package (–purge) and install the native package (dpkg -i packagename.deb)

By doing this, PMS will start as the system starts

You should really consider a wired connection. WiFi is not conducive to running a server. At best, you will get 1/2 the bandwidth due to how WiFi works.

Many thanks for tracking that down, it now works with the native package. I wouldn’t expect that difference between snap and a native package. I’ll see if I can make a wired connection.
