Hear me out here: I think it would be amazing if we could nest a collection within another collection, not unlike television episodes are nested with seasons on plex already.

USE CASE: I have a large number of ‘directors’ collections featuring the works of my fav filmmakers, a number of awards collections, studios collections, best of decades, etc, and it makes the collections page quite crowded and difficult to navigate.

It would be amazing to have the ability to have a “Directors” Parent collection I could navigate to in which all directors collections would live, ditto “Awards Collection” “Festivals Collection” etc. Otherwise, I have to tame my insatiable desire to create collections, and I simply can’t be stopped, ok?

I disagree. I think it still could happen especially with all the AI enhancements with coding. I don’t think it’s too complex at all, Plex has a roadmap of things they are working towards. If we keep communicating the ask and want for nested folders hopefully one day it will happen.

I like your positive attitude, but they have not even commented a single peep about this feature in the last 7 years.

I am hopeful because Plex’s competitor Emby can do this with theirs so I know it’s very possible.

Since we haven’t been heard yet, that just means we need to climb higher on the ladder to raise our request. I’m sure we can find an executive to reach out to. :slight_smile:

I bet if we keep beating this drum, eventually we’ll get this feature! I know its very possible to do with AI today. Other media platforms already do this with providing nested folder structure of some sort. Cmon Plex! We want NESTED!! We want NESTED!! :slight_smile:

Came to raise this exact same suggestion as my collections tab is so cluttered with different types of collections but then noticed this thread started in 2018. I’d have thought it would have been pretty simple to implement, they already have the framework in place with how TV shows handle seasons but I guess it’s not going to be happening.

Do Emby or Jellyfin handle nested collections? I suspect if features appeared in competitors.. Plex would perhaps decide they’d have to have the same

Oh my god 2018. Well this is the number one reason I am constantly thinking about leaving Plex. I can’t believe it’s still missing, it’s such an essential feature. And sometimes I want smart collections to hide their items in the main library view. If I make a smart collection called Star Wars, I don’t need to see Star Wars movies in my main library

Collections within collections would also be the ideal way to replicate streaming organisation.

It seems they rather not add requested features and charge for them when they can put a core feature of Plex behind a paywall and flip us the bird instead.

Wow, around since 2018 with absolutely ZERO movement. Disappointing. +1 for this feature to get added, because nearly every other media software has this feature.

The AMA thread has a pretty definitive answer that this is not going to be added anytime soon (if ever):

The short answer is that we currently have no plans to support nesting collections.

I guess now we know. Pretty disappointing that we have so many people wanting this and the company would rather focus on features their core, PAYING customers don’t want.
