So, I am in Australia with a 2019 Panasonic 4k TV. A couple of days ago, the Plex app started displaying a banner saying the app would stop working on September 28th. After seeing some of these posts about a new app, I uninstalled it, but now there is no Plex app in the Panasonic App Market at all, so no Plex on the TV. I have just spotted a post about it only being available in Europe…
I do have a Chromecast on there, so all is not lost, but it is a pain to grab a device and cast to the TV instead of just using the remote and running on the TV directly.
I realise support was dropped weeks after getting my new TV, but still very frustrating…
Ok, so now HEVC files will play including 4k but everything is transcoded to 1080p and nothing will direct play or even direct stream with audio converted. Again wiresharks show the app is saying it only supports 1080 and not 2160p. Please change the app to native 4k support
Panasonic supports ac3 but the app does not not show support for ac3 under audio settings like old app used to. So it transcodes everything to acc.
Surely plex would do QA on this before a release totally shocking esp when you paying for plex pass. Get a grip and do proper testing before releasing an app.
Also changing the profile and adding in direct plays etc does nothing
Seems that the updated (patched) app, now have a different set of issues…It seems im gonna take a break from my plex pass subscription. To pay for something as crappy as this, its just dumb.
Actually, it seems from all updates wont direct play any 4k content. I also have a 2021 LG tv and all 4k content wants to transcode as the app is telling plex server that its only capable of 1080p and limited to 4mbps.
Seems to be bug, any original content higher than 4mbps transcodes to 4mbs no matter if app is set to original, please sort this out why is it soo hard?
sadly now i use firestick instead of panasonic app. I have understand that they never solve our problems (autologin and direct play without transcode).
I can not understand why Plex makes transcoding for simlpe streaming.
For example Panasonic TV has own dlna player and any mkv or avi files can be
streaming without any problems.
My Plex Media Server are installed on the Dlink NAS.
And as I understand this NAS has not enough power to make transcoding.
I did a little experiment: I installed PMS on my Windows laptop, in this case the Plex Client on the Panas TV works fine.
So, please remove this transcoding.
