Not surprised. Now for that Prime 6 tuner? I also have the HD Homerun Duo. So, would this make 12 tuners? (6+2+4). hahaha

im glad they separated the dvr option. as us on plex dont need the hd space. we just need the tuner

Do we assume that Silicon Dust didn’t have enough money to afford their own R&D? Is that why people are backing an established company?

no they want to gauge interest. https://www.cordcutters.com/silicondust-launches-atsc-30-capable-hdhomerun-quatro-kickstarter

Ah that makes more sense. In that case I wish I could support this too because I searched for this exact thing a couple months ago, but I just bought Plex pass today and tapped out the month’s fun money budget.

Can we assume that any non-DRM implementation would work with Plex?

its a hvec stream. plex can already handle that. so hopefully it will

I pledged yesterday and jumped in on the SD Kickstarter. I have been waiting for an ATSC 3.0 tuner for months (living in the Phoenix area).

Will Plex be able to prioritize ATSC 3.0 over ATSC 1.0 channel sources for programmed recordings?

It seems like this would need to be a software update to Plex.

Is ATSC 3.0 going to be the only thing that spurs them to support HDR->SDR tonemapping?

I have been extremely busy with a move the past few weeks and was excited to read this. I made my pledge, although I’ll have to wait until August for my unit. That is OK because I don’t know when broadcasters will finally start broadcasting ATSC 3.0. I currently have a SD Dual, SD Connect, and two SD Extend tuners. Even though it functions well, I will likely ditch the SD Dual when the Quatro arrives. As I have just moved, to a new construction home, I still need to put up my antenna, but I have all the parts to do so. I’m hoping to install it on Thursday or Friday of this week.

I know it will take time for networks to change their equipment to handle UHD/HDR content, I’m looking forward to at least having 1080p as opposed to 1080i… especially for sports, which I hope will restart sooner than later.

A bit off topic - Im deciding between and Extend and a Connect but all the Extend vs Connect threads are closed and I have a quick question you might be able to help with - especially since I saw some other responses from you that were helpful plus you seem to own these.

Some basics on my setup: plex server with dual E5-2650 v2 - 16/32 core/thread - about 20k passmark and most of what I stream is 1080p direct - not transcoded.

I would like to stream mostly live TV throughout my house, my parents home, and a beach house. 2 of the homes are remote. I have a FIOS 300Mb connection to my server. I mainly use fireTV sticks, often on wireless to N or AC Asus routers. I want to set up an antenna and bunch of tuners for my use case since I live about 25-30 miles north east of NYC with decent line of sight.

All that said would I be better off with the quad connect and transcoding on the fly via plex server? (I dont mind if its a few seconds of delay)

I have read that I cannot watch the connect live (assume would be tapping the MP2 stream) using the Channels app outside the local LAN from a remote home without a VPN. But Plex would address that.

Would an Extend have any additional benefit for the remote sites?

Any advice is appreciated. And if you want me to start a new thread no prob - but you sounds like you might have a quick answer to this scenario. Id rather not buy both tuners if I dont need to.

Thanks.

Well I own both the Quattro and the (started with the) Extend, because what I found is while my oldest daughter was off at college, between her and my mother trying to watch live TV and all of us having set up recordings (all my family has the option to set up recordings) you couldn’t watch Live TV unless you wanted to watch what the other person was watching. I do want to say having the option for 6 live streams (or 4 and 2 shows) recording really helped keep the peace with everyone.

I also suggest looking at their refurbished page (that’s where I got both of mine) and I figured if I’m going to buy refurb’d, it might as well be by the company who makes it. No problems in the 2+ years I’m using them.

Thanks - my parents and wife/daughter use my main account on all the FTVs - and extended friends/family dont get TV access on their accounts. Sounds like you have a similar need. I don’t think I need more than 4 tuners so Im leaning toward the Quattro. But is there any benefit in going with an Extend over a Connect if I need to sling the live TV stream inside and outside my home? I understand the main benefit is the transcoder but if I cant use Channels outside the LAN Im not sure it makes any difference (other than storage) if Im sending the signal out via Plex to local and remote FTVs.

I wouldn’t think you’d need the Extend for what your saying your needs are. I started with the Extend for the shear reason I was using a lower powered PC and didn’t want an issue if transcoding was needed. But ended up going with more horse-powered business PC in the end.

But do think about the multiple users who may start recording shows, one of the main reasons I have everyone on as managed users (you can give them access to the Live TV but not DVR functions  ). Until my mother moved in and found she could start recording shows, she has several set up so she can watch at her leisure (something she has plenty of now). Once they find they can DVR things each recording requires a tuner just for that recording. So prime time can get ugly. Just food for thought and good luck.
