I have been on plex using a Silicondust HDHomeRun Duo for a couple years and all works great. I live in the SanDiego area and they are starting to broadcast in ATSC 3.0 now. I am looking to upgrade my tuner to the SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex 4K ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV: 2/4 Tuners HDFX-4K. But before doing so I am checking to see if Plex is supporting ATSC 3.0 and mainly AC4 audio yet?
Well it looks like the stations have the code and license, and it liiks like HDHome Run has the License, to me it looks like all have the license but PLEX?
You can add the FLEX 4K now and only have to adjust your mapping when PLEX finally adds the functionality. That’s what I’ve done - it’s 4 tuners, all are 1.0 compatible, and 2 are also 3.0 compatible.
I’ve also had sync issues with audio and video when using the HDHomeRun app for 3.0 broadcasts, so I’m not exactly sure what the story will be once added to PLEX.
And finally, I also have an Emby lifetime license, but it hasn’t been a big enough deal for me to reinstall the Emby server software on my new server yet. Now that I type all this out, perhaps I should install it and see if the sync issue translates into Emby or if it’s HDHR only?
I still just much prefer the PLEX interface and UX, so I’d rather not switch back to Emby. This isn’t yet a big enough reason to switch back (for me).
I dont know, it’s been almost 2 years and PLEX still can’t get a license so that tells me they are not going to. I love Plex also but need to keep an open mind and look for alternatives.
I recently bought the Flex 4K hoping it would improve the signal from the DC area as I am between Balt and DC. DC is weak and I get pixellation not only with Plex but with every tuner in the house, Tv, TIVO. I do have a really good antenna with a rotor and it is mostly pointed to DC as my wife prefers the DC news. Picture comes in much better but NO SOUND. I am sad and $200 poorer
Maybe the work around is formatting Plex so “WE” can add the codec to our individual servers without infringing on your obligations with Dolby. Like a “Plug-in”, Oh MY!
This is exactly what I am talking about. I live 40 miles from San Diego and get all stations ok most of the time. I have two antennas. 1 VHF and 1 UHF, each pointing to their tower. The only channels I have any issues with are the VHF channels. And these stations are the ones that have been rolling out ATSC 3.0. So, I am sure if I bought the HDHomeRun Flex 4K ATSC 3.0 that my reception would be perfect, but what good would it be if I can’t hear anything?
