I know for a fact that we were told l that in tvOS the new audio player would remain because “people only use AirPods with mobile devices”
That was bizarre in itself.

I did some searching and looks like your right that we disabled it for iOS as that was were AirPods get more use.

I am told we are going to re-enable for TVOS beta because the main issue with the new audio engine is airpods and spatial audio which mostly is used with iOS. This is so other fixes for issues with TVOS beta the new engine addressed can be used and get feedback on in the beta. On TVOS you should be able to disable spatial audio if that bit is giving you issues. This should happen sometime later today ( Probably morning in Europe)

I could ask what it would take to add a preference to enable it in iOS, but I suspect folk wound run into similar issues that tvOS users are seeing with it enabled.
