New Background Aspect Ratio?

Media Server / Chrome Browser / Windows 10

It used to be 16:9. I tried ultra wide 21:9 and even that still gets cropped. I’m tired of my backgrounds getting cropped and making most images unusable for this purpose.

I’m also creating a Game Index making do with the Movies Library. To see all my games for all devices in a nice format and searchable with the power of collections. This way if I want to play something I can just browse through the index and see pertinent information and art for all the games I have access to on all my devices. Then I can see what devices I have the game for and any info I should know like–particular settings, suites, or controllers I have.

I’m just changing the .jpg of copies of game box art images to .m4v so Plex will pick it up. Then, I’m creating the Poster and Background in Gimp for each game. Finally, I’m entering in all the other information by hand, and adapting some fields for use in games. I want to really use the Background real estate to display reverse box art or maybe even ingame shots. But I need my images to not be cropped.

When I press play on the .jpg files that I changed to .m4v the image is displayed. I may use that as a space for a collage of ingame shots. I’m still working out the system and playing around with ideas.

I thought for sure 4:1 was right, it is not. Still working on figuring out what it is.

1:2.97 is as close as I have been able to measure it so far. You’d think 1:3 might be it but even that still gets cropped. I had to create and image pattern to use as a measuring tool. If you choose 1080 as your height then 3210 would be your width. I was measuring with 20x20 blocks so even this may be off some. What in the friggin world is going on here. Why would anyone choose 1:2.97 or there abouts. I can think of no logical reasoning for this.

Via Facebook - Plex: “the image cropping in the web app changes based on width and height of browser window, generally ( unless you make the whole window really small) it is only maximizing width which results in sometimes cropping the bottom off so the poster with the play button is still displayed”

Via Facebook - Mark Shaun Rushow: “Ah I see. I hope that can be changed. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t always this way. Difficult balancing between the assets I understand. I guess for now I’ll just have to make my window smaller while browsing.”
