When I click on that link, I get the option and it was enabled. But when I go to the settings page on my actual server, it isn’t there - I only have 3 options under “Discover” (all of them disabled).
So, to reiterate: all of this stuff should be disabled by default.
The web app that comes with server is a bit older and does not have all the options, but should be updated soon. The web app at app.plex.tv which still connects to your server locally is newer and has more options.
Remember that time when you said my comment wasn’t removed? Now both have been removed… Even the bare minimum cleaned up one. My original was too far but my newer clean statement had no reason to be removed other than censorship of a negative opinion.
Why are you censoring your users who are simply voicing their negative sentiment about a feature that we find very concerning. I no longer feel safe with features like this being pushed out and easily enabled if not already enabled out of the gate. This is unethical.
Yeah that was because I thought you were someone else who asked a similar thing… If you choose to call people names in you comments whether in these forums or the blog the comments will be removed unceremoniously.
Anything on being able to not show up in other people’s friends lists?
Shouldn’t be possible to just see some random person in my “Suggested” List because they are friends with someone I know, and then be able to browse their friends list and see all of their friends.
Even more bizarre that of any of these friends of a friend of a friend I could hit the “Add Friend” button on.
I’d really just like to fully opt out of this entire “Discover Together” feature.
In your profile privacy settings you can set “Account Visibility” to friends only. https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/profile/edit if they share their friends list you will not be on it
You do not need to be friends with anyone to give or accept server library access.
This is not true. Or if we “opted in” it was unintentional. Out of 25 users on my server. 13 are not sharing and are not active. 12 are sharing and are active users. I asked 6 of them if they opted in they said “NO!” They were very surprised to see their watch history broadcasted out. You guys have a serious problem here. I’m furious and have taken down my server.
Thank you for the link, I didn’t even know that I had a Profile page in the Desktop App, let alone a Privacy Settings Section on it, and that privacy settings that I was looking for wasn’t in the Main Settings → Account section and then under privacy like I thought that it would be.
I only came to the forums to look for the information after finding out that this had happened via a LTT video (Today’s TechLinked News had that this “Feature” had been leaking private viewing information on it).
News cycles starting to pick up on this as well now too. Plex, you guys made a terrible decision and need to opt all users out or remove this feature altogether.
If you have to spend so much time explaining so many different pathways to disable these new sharing settings to so many different people, please for the love of all that is good and pure admit that you are wrong; these settings must be placed somewhere in a way that is clear, unambiguous and easy to turn on or off all together, in one place. Not in multiple places, not in places that don’t make sense (“Edit profile” to disable sharing? Why would I ever look inside “Edit profile”??).
Oh, and the most important thing of all - no matter whether you put this in a popup that turns the user’s volume to the max and screams from their speakers, if it’s on by default, it’s illegal according to GDPR, and there is nothing you can argue against that.
So, turn it off by default before the lawsuits and fines come in.
Have been watching and its all over the news now. Plex screwed the pooch on this one and needs to walk it back if they want to have any chance of salvaging the trust that users once had in their product. At this point, I’m ready to start sniffing packets to determine exactly what they are monitoring and collecting, because its obvious that we’re not getting the truth about this fiasco. Trust is a VERY hard thing to gain back once users have been put in this sort of situation. I’m already seeing friends starting to put in router rules to block traffic to Plex.
Even with the recent clarification postings, which are hidden in the forum versus a proper blog post mind you, it is not enough to make myself and my users feel safe with these recent changes.
Everyone needs to have a push to their account opting them out of all of these recent changes. If they choose to opt themselves back in after the fact, that is fine but it needs to be their choice. I have so many users that have no idea that there’s settings they should be changing let alone how to change them themselves. This is a blatant abuse of their trust and you need to take these steps to start to undo that massive misstep.
If this doesn’t change I plan on shutting down, which also means the rest of my users, and going elsewhere.
