When I rip my disks I rip everything which includes the video clips that play during the menu when you first insert the disk. Many shows also include the opening credits as extra content for any given show. I was thinking it would be cool if I could have a video be my background for the movie or show I am thinking of watching instead of just a static image. What does everyone think?
I love how they link my request but I can’t comment on it. So when you rip a bluray the main menu is actually just a video file. all of the menu options are actually Java layed on top of it so it doesn’t show in the ripped file. Also as an addition to here I think that the video segment in tv series for the opening credits would also work great here. I mean plex already detect the intro so it is right there. Just a thought.
You’re obviously right and I have no intention to minimize your request.
Over time I’ve just run into a number of backgrounds that integrated (passive) component of the “UI” as integrated part of the video (while the java components / active images will usually be added on-top).
This is not making the background clips “useless”… just a little less ideal – e.g. if there’s static components which are supposed to be a good contract for the menus

… or if it contains the frame for the dynamic components.

That being said… that was approx. 10% of my background videos – which makes 90% a good source
That is a fair assessment. It depends on the movie. The ones like Jurassic World look great.
Hello everyone,
Sorry if this topic is a bit old, just wondering after all if we can or not choose a video file as a background or only music ?
Z.
You can already assign theme songs to movies by adding a theme.mp3 file to the movie folder (same as with tv shows).
So I guess we can’t make theme.mkv then ![]()
This is what I would like
